Republican Senator Ted Cruz of Texas, who was the public face of the Tea Party-backed campaign to stop the implementation of the Affordable Care Act, popularly known as Obamacare, has taken a great deal of criticism for the manner in which he opposed the health care reform and insulted his own party. However, the bigger problem may be that his numerous public tirades against the law employed some dubious facts.

but here's an example of why some people follow him......if you can find the logic thread in this, please draw a map...

To the editor:
The other day, we received our MUD tax bill for the year. As an 86-year-old, I was shocked to see a 10.5 percent increase.
I understand water is in short supply in our area and that new wells had to be drilled in a deeper aquifer. Imagine my shock two days later when the newspaper told me that a California company had made arrangements to take 40,000 gallons out of our aquifer to bottle and sell. And not one word of complaint from anyone.
Then I read where our U.S. senator, Ted Cruz, was being lambasted by, of all people, John McCain. And no one seems to care that this one man who is one of a very few in our Senate who seems to care that the Affordable Care Act is not affordable, that it has cost thousands of people their full-time jobs; that on page 272 of that act, it says quite plainly that after age 75, cancer treatment will no longer be provided; and on page 58-59, the IRS will have real-time access to your bank account with authority to make electronic fund transfers from your account.
Am I the only one upset that to avoid a shutdown, our Congress agreed to let the powers that be spend another trillion dollars by mid-February. That is just four months away. Doesn’t anyone care that we pay interest on all that borrowed money and there will come a time at this pace, when other countries will not loan us anymore. Then, we won’t even be able to pay the interest.
I know just a few people who seem upset that our military chaplains as well as our officers are being put on a tight leash about what they can say about God.
At age 86, I won’t be here too much longer, but I am going on record to tell the young people that if you don’t quit believing that Socialism is the cure for our ills, you are going to see the greatest inflation you have ever seen, you are going to see a bankrupt nation, you are going to see Sharia law take over our courts, and you are going to have one miserable life. It is time to start going to church and to pray that God will raise up some leaders with common sense. My wife and I have been married for over 63 years. We have seen God act many times to help us. Our country needs Him now like never before. Wake up. Join us in asking for His help to heal a seriously ill USA.

Does superstitious belief create stupidity or is it a learned trait from watching right wing con artists and charlatans? What a scam, poor fools.
Poor us.
the part that is really frightening is how many people believe 'facts' that are contrived, fabricated or distorted. fema camps? birth certificates? the aca? remember the 'quotes' from obama's books that were disproved and the retort was..."well it sounds like something he'd say!" people buy into bullshit if it bolsters what they believed already similar to drunks believe everyone drinks, drug addicts think everyone does drugs and dumbasses believe this stuff. a part that really gets me scratching my head is how they connect the dots like this letter writer does...a doesn't lead to be...it leads to m and back to j and then wherever the adhd takes them....how do you go from affordable health care to sharia law?
Doesn’t do much to boost your faith in humanity, does it. Here is another fun example. The original quote was sent to me by a right leaning friend of mine. (Yes, I do have a couple right wing friends. (I am a tolerant fellow.)
(UPDATED) In case you weren't properly terrified at the prospect of President-elect Obama and his "terrorist pals" remaking this country into a Communist police state, the far-right-wing blogosphere would like you to get a load of this prescient quote from a past leader of the Soviet Union:
AND SO IT BEGINS!
"We cannot expect Americans to jump from capitalism to Communism, but we can assist their elected leaders in giving Americans small doses of socialism until they suddenly awake to find they have Communism."
-Soviet Leader Nikita Khrushchev, 1959
Except, so far as anyone has been able to prove, Comrade Khrushchev never said any such thing. The quote, which has been used by demagogues since the early 1960s to equate liberal/progressive policies with communism, doesn't appear in Khrushchev's writings or in the transcripts of any his speeches, and the only person who ever claimed to have witnessed the utterance firsthand (see update on Ezra Taft Benson below) gave contradictory accounts of where and when the words were supposedly spoken.
The Communist Party was more honest -- and supportive of their countrymen -- then the Tea party ever has been.
and i have seen a couple comments regarding ted cruz being a communist sleeper agent groomed to take over the united states....ahahhhhhhh! now it all makes sense..him being one of them commie canadians after all....that must make justin the beaver some form of diabolical brainwashing ....."honey i just washed my f'ing brain and i can't do a thing with it ... it musta shrunk!"
