The 113th Congress

Well, it has started, the next Congress of the United States and its business has begun. 

Of course, as to how hard and as to what result this congress will be is the question.

What we do know is that there was much unleft and unfinished as of the 112th Congress.
Which leads to how will things improve or get worse. First, of course, there is no
presidential campaign, however we do face the congressional campaigns of 2014 that will
impact on who, does what.

At a minimum we are faced immediately by a financial crisis, the reauthorization of the
debt ceiling. The president has said no negociations on his part as to a deal. Tbis is
of course wishful thinking in that at a minimum the administration is going to have
master spending cuts that are going to be demanded. Then there are the nominations that
yet to be presented, examined and approved. There is the question of whether the senate rules are
changed to limit the filibuster. The issue of gun control will have to finessed to deal with the gun lobby. And no, there are still taxes, more and more of what will be needed to balance a budget. And oh, yes, a budget for the first time in years, or not.

The country can only wait.
