Thirty-five years ago, the sixties were revisited as frat life at Faber College with Delta Tau Chi House, and the story for National Lampoon's, Animal House. As shown, life at Faber wasn't a party, it was a party all the time at Delta House as the new pledges were put thru their induction to frat life on campus.
I live those times, the sixties, at a major Midwest university and it to had a Greek tradition with a street of fraternity and sorority houses that had, to the say the least, a reputation. And yes, the beer flowed, sometime night and day.
But overall what was the harm, if being young and well, stupid is what is growing up is all about. Nothing is what would be the right answer, but not if there are life lessons involved as to how one learns to live in a society and culture that full of challenges as those of Delta House would have to face in the seventies, eighties, nineties and beyond. In Animal House we see how bad behavior, alcohol abuse, forms of mental cruelty, sexism, racism, exploitation and finally, coming to the conclusion that,.. this situation absolutely requires a really futile and stupid gesture be done on somebody's part..We're just the guys to do it.
No,it is situational where the facts don't matter, it is rather, the appearance of and the act of doing something...What? Over? Did you say "over"? Nothing is over until we decide it is! Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor? Hell no! Lesson learned, school is out, and no, ...Seven years of college down the drain. Might as well join the ... Peace Corps.
Other items involved in the film, other than giving a living demonstration of a zit and how to involve people in food fights, is how to get girls thru reading a newspaper or how to dump girls when faced with irreconcilable cultural differences or with a shopping cart and how to do the worm, or give unappreciated recognition, Otis, my man.
At the end of the film, rolling in the credits there is the epilogue of where some of the graduates end up, such as, Bluto Blutarsky, senator.
And now we know, congress is on double, secret probation.
