Yes I think it has a place.
In the same sense that I think that freedom from religion has a place in politics.They both have a place.
The freedom to believe and practice that believe and the freedom to not believe and practice that non belief belief. -

Evangelical Christians, they claim they have no religion, they just follow Jesus' teachings. The hell they do, they aren't called the American Taliban for nothing.

We have a constitutional amendment that separates institutions, it does not separate the people from their beliefs.
