The late night comics will miss him  :(

of course the downside...david dewhurst....greg abbott...etc etc...remember rick perry reconvened the legislature to PROVE his conservative credentials....for some people in texas, perry isn't considered conservative enough....kind of a lobotomy party...

Does anyone here seriously think that whoever replaces him will be an improvement?

We can beat the bush...

Best hope is to do a Palin, cash out in the media.

His national brand won't get him thru the primaries if he is thinking the presidency.  He is not good enough to withstand the media scrutiny and exposure as a national candidate, as he showed in 2012.

What this means to Texas is that a more extreme right candidate will run for the governorship, and win.

Texas isn't going blue soon, and not in 2014, nor in 2016.  As to 2020, when the next census occurs, and the state can reapportion, then that is where the fight will begin to move the color of the state, and even then, it probably remains blue for another decade or more.

And yes, this was a a true blue, red state for most of its history, even recently with Richardson and Benson in the nineties.

I have to wonder why he's giving up... losing voters after his pathetic performance in the presidential primary  and losing many women's votes after Texas' sneaky abortion fiasco?

If I were red, I'd feel a little blue...

Ah, errata, I meant blue state, not red state as to the long Democrat history of Texas.

It has always given me problems that the US media has adopted as signifying colors; blue for Democrats, and red for Republicans in that traditionally blue was color of conservatives, the right and reactionaries while red the color of the left, socialists and radicals, and of course, white for the monocrats.

Red is a good color the right; Nazi, KKK, White Power, and all of that...
