course it should be noted that he SITS on the penn state board of trustees...and they AGREED to the sanctions...but then football might be more important to this ass than child molesting...and weren't some members of the board privy to knowledge of those acts BEFORE the matter was taken up by the police?
STATE COLLEGE, Pa. (AP) — The NCAA overstepped its authority by imposing hefty sanctions on Penn State University in the wake of the Jerry Sandusky child molestation scandal, Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Corbett said Wednesday as he filed a federal antitrust lawsuit against the college athletics governing body.
Corbett said the university and the state have been harmed by what he called "harsh penalties" over the abuse committed by Sandusky, a former assistant football coach. The NCAA "piled on" and acted unlawfully because it stands to benefit from the sanctions, he said.

Upon further review...yup, it hurts and it hurts too much, like a 2-5 B1G bowl success when "the" OSU and PennState could have been better competition against the semipro SEC. And of course, think of the money, big money, B1G money for competing and winning. Money needed to pay the lawyers, suits and compensation derived from the Patrino legacy of showering with shame.
Nope, it is all business here and we need to recognize that as a business PennState and the State of Pennsylvania have ultimately to be responsible to the taxpayers much less to the liability insurers that have been caught up in this mess.
And of course, the lack of sensitivity and the optics of weaseling out of what was the taking of the responsibility and shame for what was done by those that should have been more watchful and careful not to be taken down by worship of the minor gods of collegiate football.
Overall, nevermind...
I do not disagree at all with the college and its Administration being punished. I'm not sure how it's really possible to take away championships from previous years and it does put current students and sports players in a difficult spot. Once committed to a college it is difficult to transfer that scholarship (although I think Penn State did tell this year's incoming freshmen that they could transfer without penalty). Again, NOT defending Penn State's inaction in the Sandusky matter but just acknowledging that it's not the current students who did anything wrong; they are also being punished. I don't know what the answer is. As the grandmother of a college football player I know what a position this would put him in had he been committed to Penn State. And also not considering college football the be-all and end-all; sometimes it's the way a student can be able to go to college at all.
