Do we have anyone in the group that has one of the utilities that will convert a PDF file to a word DOC file?

I know there are a lot of "Free Ones" out there, but I don't want to go that route, as I've tried several, and just too much time spent!

I have 2 documents, each with 300+ pages. I need to be able to convert to a DOC file so I can perform some searches on key words!

I'm using Word 2003, and no I'm not going to change. So I need to find a converter program that works! I don't care if it costs $$$$. Just want to find one that works! Any comments are appreciated!!!!

you could try one of these two that were both on giveawayoftheday recently...they have trial versions....you can install them, try them and, if you don't like them, uninstall them...

you can also find others on this link with the reviews if you click on them...

and here is that list amended to be just the free ones

Thanks for the offer Kooner, I'll let you know!

What we've learned so far is the "free" converters are not so free. They have issues, don't like handling large files, large learning curve, etc....

Commercially avail programs are PDF Converter @ $39, Nuance PDF Converter @$99, Corel PDF Fusion @ $69. Then we have Adobe who has a converter, but you have to pay for a yrs use, and now software is downloaded. AND it looks as if you just can't sign up for a single yr. Have to cancel it after 1st yr!

I was hoping to find someone who had used one of these programs, but haven't as yet. So I'll continue to look into the task for a while!

does openoffice have that function? that's the freeware version of microsoft office

I don't have the latest version of OO. However, I don't think i'm  doing anything wrong, it's just that the "edit PDF" functionality of OpenOffice.org is extremely basic, and certainly not suitable to editing large documents while preserving the layout.

Here is an update to my PDF conversion project!

I found a product by Nuance.com called PDF Converter 8.0! for $39.00 at Frys!

It's a great product for anyone having to deal with PDF files. The reason I purchased it was it allows you to search a PDF file, and it allows you to convert documents to DOC, EXC, and other formats.

The software package allows you to install the SW on one PC. There is an option to remove the SW from that PC and reinstall it on another PC. Great Option!!!!!

If you need to scan or convert PDF files, forget all those "FREE" converters, as it's not worth the amount of time to you'll need to work around all there short comings.................

** As a side note! My original need was to be able to search LARGE PDF files for specific words or topics. The only way I was able to do that was to convert the PDF files to DOC then search as required! This SW utility will allow you to search PDF documents without having to convert the file to another format!
