I have a new HP Envy "All-in-One" puter......all of a sudden it stopped letting me upload videos to YouTube.  The only thing I changed on it was to get rid of Norton (too many horror stories) and replaced it with AVG virus protection.  AVG found (or at least they said they did...never do trust any of them....all they want is more money.) numerous errors and it took 3 hours to re-do my system.  Afterwards I could not upload any thing to YT.  I got on the instant message thingee and got the "Person from India" tech rep...... (by their names, I can never tell if they're male or female), anyhow, he/she got control of my computer (I really hate when they do that) and temporarily suspended the AVG software protection, I tried to upload a video it gave me the same error and kicked me out.  What happens is I hit the download, after loggin in to YT, like I have always done and pick out the file to upload....it spins....an error message pops up...."MS Explorer ran into a problem and has to close" type message.....they never tell you what "problem" they ran into.  I have performed a check of my internet connection and HP says it is fine and no problems.

What could be causing something like this?

Falcon,

before we can answer your question, I need you to clarify your use of the words "upload" and "download".  You seem to be using them interchangeably, and it's confusing to me as to exactly what your problem is.  For example, this has me a little lost:  I tried to upload a video it gave me the same error and kicked me out.  What happens is I hit the download, after loggin in to YT, like I have always done and pick out the file to upload....

Two things to suggest right away would be to go to http://speedtest.net  and let us know what your upload and download speeds are.  Secondly, I'd suggest you try another browser like Firefox or Chrome and see if that browser still gives you the error message.  One thing I'm sure of, though, is that AVG should not get in the way at all.

And thirdly, is it possible that if you're uploading a video TO YouTube that yu might be exceeding your daily or weekly or size allotment?

Falcon,

hee heee....you'll see that Larry and I have much the same thought!  Use another browser.

Larry's suggestion to use REVO uninstaller is a great one.  You can get it here for free:  http://download.cnet.com/Revo-Uninstaller/3000-2096_4-10687648.html

What OS do you have?  Windows 8 on that HP All-In-One ??

Pete

Have you considered using Microsoft Essentials? http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows/security-essentials-down...

There used to be a MS Fix it tool to download but am not finding that.

I am wondering what horror stories you have heard about Norton? I have been using Norton Internet Security for three years now and have had no problems. I do understand it can be difficult to uninstall and thus cause problems.

@Willy - Norton, at various times in the past decade, has been great, rotten, a pig, a dog, a savior, and a devil.  And it all depends on the version you have, the horsepower in your PC (for handling the load of the Norton a/v engine) and the RAM you have (to allow that a/v engine to run side-by-side with all your other apps).  And it's always been notorious for leaving breadcrumbs of it's installation.  The best way to get rid of it that I've been able to find is googling "How to uninstall Norton Yada Yada" and then hoping that one of the links that comes back is a link to a free tool right on the Symantec website.  Nothing better than Symantec to get rid of Symantec.  Next best is Revo.  The problem is that Norton doesn't necessarily provide uninstallers for every flavor of it's software, so there may be no other option than Revo.

For Falcon - Willy's right about Microsoft Security Essentials.  It's free, and effective.  However, if you ahve Windows 8, there is no "Microsoft Security Essentials", it's now called Windows Defender, I think.  And yes, it's the old Windows Defender, but also with the added a/v security of MSE, so it's a good thing to have.  If you have Win8, and if you have Windows Defender, that should be all you need.....well, except for Malwarebytes, but everybody should have Malwarebytes!

I gave Norton a try again a few years back at the recommendation of Oldguy46. Where is that old guy?

I don't know if this will still leave crumbs, maybe Pete knows.

@Willy - I think the app you used on Sid's recommendation might have been a full Norton "Suite".  Sid likes the one-button approach.

That link you provided is a good one, Willy, but it doesn't seem to address (yet) anyone who has Windows 8.  Well, maybe it does, and they just haven't updated the list yet.  It's certainly worth a try.

Pete

Pete, what I have is Norton Internet Security, I think that is what you mean by Suite, or is it?

I like free as much as anyone but never had one of those that didn't create problems somewhere along the way. Zone Alarm, AVG,Avast etc.

Willy,

yeah, Norton Internet Security is more than just an anti-virus application.

Different strokes, I guess....I've used Avast for the past 6 years and have never had a problem.  But there are so many variables involved that it's impossible for me to say it's better for "you" than "your" current one.

Pete

There is a good chance that a user has unintentionally done something wrong that interfered with such a application, in my case, fingers lol. Or even some other download, maybe even a MS Update, who knows for sure.

I do feel secure with my current software and don't mind the few dollars a year, just a little thinner butter on my bread lol.

You lost me on some of that MrMusic. You uninstall Norton each time and then install the new version? I just enter the new product key from the new version. Where do you buy for $18.00?

I have never even used the utility CD,what am I missing out on? I figured that it might be the one thing that could gum up the works.

I guess it pays to have a credit card or use a checking card but I am not brave enough to apply for or use one.

As for using on the computers, that is standard with that software.

I meant on 3 computers.
