I can't believe no one has had anything to say in this group about the SOTU speech. I found it quite entertaining and instructive on a couple of different levels. Nobody else?

Well, I did like Obama's statement, "I thought I would get some applause on that one!" when he spoke of all the tax cuts, and not a single Republican responded!
Ok,I did say something in the comments I gave Obama an A for enthusiasm and a C+ overall.
What I found interesting was several things I heard Bush at one time or another say or want. Drilling off shore, alternative fuels-helping small business.
I wish he would put a freeze on spending now( like going after the Fox after he's eaten the Whole hen house)
I too have a problem with the supreme court decision on campaigning. I just wish in a way he could've brought it up outside the SOTU.
That should do for a start.
I thought that was very revealing too, Ronald. The way they didn't applaud for even their own ideas and interests—it should be apparent to everyone just where the gridlock is happening in Washington at the moment, and how it is not the ideas of the administration that keeps Republicans in their seats.

The meeting in Baltimore, MD with the Republicans was fan-freaking-tastic. AND, wonder of wonders, it was all caught on video and broadcast television. It was good that Fox news pulled away early from a clip they used in their momentary mention of the meeting, rather than show how president Obama mopped the floor with the GOP, nicely. Priceless.

Loved that meeting, and would hope for more. At least they had to talk to each other.
Since I'm not on my computer and back on my Ph again Toby I'll answer you here. I'd give both the Dems and the Rep a C- because as far as I'm concerned neither group is really listening! Its all about me attitudes! I've seen it on all sides.
Thats exactly what Obama said too- that both sides do it.
I especially love the way the Mike Pence (of Indiana, I believe) couldn't even look the president in the eye as he asked his churlish first question. What a visual. Obama had a complete command of the issues and (as he promised to do) called the Republicans out when they tried to float some of their crap, but always did it in a calm, courteous and professional way.

I think most of the Republicans were also courteous, even as they hoped to score some political points against Obama. All except Pence, Jeb Hensarling, and Marsha (let's pulled out of the teaparty convention, since it looks like to might draw controversy) Blackburn who read a small novel of talking points about all the good ideas that Republicans have. Blackburn never got around to trying to implement any of those good ideas in the previous eight (or so years) she has been in congress, even under a Republican president.
Cantor & Boehner looked like they were sucking rotten lemons throughot the whole speech.I wonder what good they think such crusty sourness will do them at home or on the campaign trail, especially since it seems they're also against the jobs bill, unions, and are standing up for the banks. No applause for bank fees did I see from that side of the room.
I LOVED it!! He prooves why I voted for him in the first place- intelligent, wants to do the right thing for the American people and can stand up to bullies. I especially liked how he put the one in his place, it was if he said- despite all your insults I know you have a question somewhere... Ignored? no, they were just DUMB ideas, simple as that! The message I got was, lets stop arguing the petty things and get some things done that are terribly needed.
