I don't know if NASA is keeping Hush hush,

but 3 yrs ago when I took my 11th graders to the Rose Center planetarium in NYC, there was a clip at the end of the amazing presentation on planetary collisions on how scientist are currently working on ways to deflect a particularly huge asteroid heading on collision path with the Earth. It was a rather small and boring ending segment in the presentation, but I did pay attention to that alarming part.
