Something my mom told me not too long before she died: "Whatever you do, try to never, ever look forward to anything, because every single time during my entire life I looked forward to something, there was someone--parent, boss, spouse--who made sure it didn't happen." That made me so sad when she told me that & it still makes me sad that it happened to her--along with her telling me she also felt invisible most of her life--but the advice to not look forward to much if anything has kinda been useful the last coupla years and is getting even more useful. (All that getting-my-hopes up and daring-to-dream stuff was exhausting & a waste of time; much better now.)
My ex did that to me our entire marriage OP. I finally succeeded accomplishing a lot, not everything, after we split. She continued to try after the divorce in many ways, I dealt with them one by one, she did not stop my looking forward for a change.
