I hung around with a girl in high school who was friends with another girl whose father was getting remarried. The new wife had a teenaged daughter. Dad asked his daughter and her friend to befriend the new stepsister and show her around and get her acquainted. They were secretly trying to find a way out of it and leave the poor girl (a "Hick" from upper Wisconsin) stuck on her own. I thought that sucked, and I made up my mind that I was going to introduce myself to this girl and befriend her, since they weren't going to. I introduced myself the first day she started at our school.....and 50 years later.....here we are.

You know, the weird thing is how unusual that was for me. I was always the shy one....waiting for someone else to approach me. I think it was just meant to be.
