First Haiku

Do you remember your first Haiku? I do. It's my favorite one, I think.

I wrote it about my dog, Cu. Cu means "hound" in Gaelic.

For years I'd greeted her in the morning with "Hi, Cu." And often I'd smiled at the play on words. Finally, inspired by this group, I wrote a Haiku for her.

"Hi, Cu," each morning.
Not a poem, nor Japanese.
She's a lovely dog.

This was a 6th grade English assignment -- and the beginning of my obsession with the challenge of "painting the whole picture" in just 17 syllables.

"First Snow"

Warm coat, warm pockets
Fingers explore the corners --
Something! (Memories...)
