Any Hyster Sisters here?

I had a hysterectomy in April 2008 due to a plethora of female issues that ultimately landed me in the hospital needing a transfusion. I'm so happy with the results that I wish I had had one much sooner. I certainly do NOT miss monthly periods!

I had a complete hyst in 2005. I have a very strong family history of ovarian cancer. I had had serial sonograms that were highly suspicious of ovarian CA...( my Mom had it at 68 as did her sister...). I opted for a radical hysterectomy...abdominal.
Fortunately there was no cancer but extensive endometriosis....all over the place. I tried HRT for a couple months and hated it...plus I objected to the source of the estrogen. I have been on my own since then. Hot flashes...power surges...still exist but are getting better....Good thing I live up north! Sex is wonderful but somewhat less sensational...if you know what I mean...!
I don't miss the mess....but I do miss the 'business'. I felt androgenous for a long time...

I had mine at age 40 after 10 years of atypical through to pre-cancerous pap tests. The stress became so much that the doctor & I agreed that this had gone too far - after having the hysterectomy I felt so much better - the stress just dropped away & I've never been sorry.

I had my hysterectomy a few months after my mother & had the keyhole surgery rather than the old traditional method which takes so much longer to recover from & of course you don't get the same scarring. My mother was so upset to find there was another method available & that it hadn't been offered to her.

In September of last year I had a partial hysterectomy (laparoscopic thru my belly button and birth canal). It has been one the best things I could have ever done for myself physically. Unfortunately, I met the most wonderful man after that and we are now engaged to be married. At the time I had the surgery, I was at the tail end of a very unhappy marriage and my youngest child was almost 10. I thought I was done having kids. I wish now that I could give this wonderful man a child.

A year before having the hysterectomy I had an Endometrial ablation to stop the heavy bleeding and for the treatment of Fibroids. Like so many women on here, I was bleeding almost all the time and would be house bound for at least 2 days every month because the bleeding was so heavy. The ablation did stop the heavy bleeding but I never stopped bleeding completely. Kinda like spotting all the time. Try wearing white pants! And the fibroids came back and were actually embedded in the wall of my uterus (the surgeon took pictures during the hysterectomy surgery).

And I absolutely do not miss having a period!

Very. I could not donate blood (which I had been able to do all my life) and I had no energy. I feel so much better now! Since the surgery I have lost 60 pounds. Mostly because I felt like exercising.

Hyster Sister here :) I'm 46 and had mine this past October. BEST thing I've ever done. I had fibroids and endometriosis. Excruciating periods that lasted forever. I wish I would have done it years ago...So nice not having to plan my life around my period.
