TBD on Ning

What are some of your favorite winter meals?  Do you cook them yourself?  Mine is a big pot of homemade beef stew.  I could eat it any time during the winter.  It's one of a very few things I like to eat.

91 is only too low if you are not used to it and get the shakes.  Most doctors actually don't know how to treat diabetes and they will kill you (literally) with kindness.  I've fired doctors and "diabetic trainers" for incompetence.

I don't get the hypoglycemic shakes until I hit the low 60's.  But I do my best to keep my BG between 100 and 85.

I'm surprised you could not control your BG through Byetta.  Perhaps you have lost all your islet cells from the high BG and are now actually a Type I/II.  That is a hard one - IR and no insulin.

Do read Bernstein's books - he is the best diabetologist in America. He has regular internet conferences and all sorts of things.  He is a Type I and has dedicated his life to treating Type I and II diabetes.

I don't do soft drinks - well, maybe one every now and then - and only diet. I use a blend of various sweeteners.  Atkins said if you mix 3 then you cancel out aftertaste, so I blend stevia, splenda and sweet&low or splenda, equal & stevia, etc.   BTW, when I used to drink 40oz of green tea a day it had a marked effect on my BG.

Today I stopped by Boston market and got a chef's special for $7.  I had a chicken leg and that was it.  I'll eat on this for a couple of days with the LC sides.

Serenity, I got rid of one doctor who told me that my 5.4 A1C was too low and to cut my metformin in half.  I told her that after 15 years of trying to get it below 7 that wasn't happening.  I went to a different doctor who told me it was perfect.  I had the paperwork from the lab and normal goes down to 4.8. Sometimes we have to keep a close eye on the doctors as well as our health.

Despite all, I still hover around 6.1 A1C.  I don't take any meds, though.

Watch your kidney function.  My ex went into renal failure from the metformin. A few folks do have that problem from the met.

Yes, we do have to watch the doctors

BTW, I did some measurements today:

1 small apple (unpeeled)

1 8 inch cucumber (unpeeled)

10 grapes

5 oz red pepper

2 scoops protein powder

total of about 254 calories and about 44 carbs before deducing fiber. This provides two "drinks" with 24 grams protein and about 14 grams carbs (deducing for fiber).  You can eliminate 16 carbs by pulling the apple.

I cook chile and stews in the crock pot.

Soup and homemade bread.  I could live on it all year.

And I make a mean pot of chili.  Ask anyone!
