Yes, I know it`s July, but what are your classic Xmas movies? For me "Miracle on 34th Street" (both versions), "Scrooge" and "Holiday Inn".

I'll have to get Holiday Inn. Wonderful Life, of course. King Kong (1934) has been known to cheer me up.
These are all my favorites. I also like The Bishop's Wife (the Loretta Young version).
I love White Christmas!
In the film "Rocky Horror Picture Show" there`s a wonderful in-joke about "King Kong". The scene shows Rocky climbing an RKO radio mast with the dead body of his lover/creator slung over his shoulder a la Faye Wray, incidentally there`s also a reference in one of the songs in that film to Faye- great stuff.

It's not a classic yet, but "Love Actually" puts me in a very Christmassy mood.
"Love Actually" is a great film. I didn`t include it in my list because as you say they are too `recent`. If I were to include `recent` films I would also mention "Hogfather" and "The Holiday"

The scene in Love Actually where the husband accidentally gives his wife his lover's gift, a very romantic gift, then takes it back and tries to cover (INSTEAD OF JUST GIVING THEM TO HER!), and gives her a cassette tape instead, which she goes in the other room and cries to. Oh, that was a lump in the throat!
Has anyone mentioned "Meet Me in St. Louis"?
No, but it should definitely be in the top 5. Judy singing "Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas" is a perennial favourite for any time of the year.

Depends on your holiday memories. In our family, The Bells of St. Mary's was on the Christmas watch list every year, with Holiday Inn (I remember staying up until 4 a.m. watching this one year), White Christmas, It's a Wonderful Life, A Christmas Carol - all the original classics.

And yes, A Christmas Story already is regarded among the greats. Watch it every year, usually multiple times.

This is a movie thread, but if we are discussing harbingers of the season, what about all those Claymation classics - Rudolph, Frosty, A Year Without a Santa Claus? Christmas just isn't without seeing those on an early Sunday evening. Let's just call 'em mini movies.
I love the Christmas movies. They are such feel good movies. It doesnt matter if its Miracle on 34th street, Its a Wonderful Life, The Bishops Wife, The Bells of St. Marys or Home Alone. We cant forget the Christmas cartoons either.Charlie Brown, Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer,The Little Drummer Boy,etc. They all make you feel warm and cozy.,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,LOVE THEM ALL
How about "The Shop Around the Corner?" It was remade in the 90's as "You've Got Mail."
