By the way Rapa, Alaska is a land of huge diversity where landscape is concerned. I live in the southcentral part which is 60 miles south of Anchorage as the crow flies. The mountains and water you see are part of the Kenai Peninsula and Cook Inlet. The Kenai Peninsula hangs out into the Gulf of Alaska. Other parts like the Aleution Islands going out toward Japan is windy and rocky, the Southeastern area where the capital of Juneau is down by Washington state is wet and heavily timbered (logging), the Interior south of Fairbanks and the Yukon and Kuskokwim Rivers is forested and full of lakes, rivers, and sloughs, the North Slope north of the Brooks Range is windswept tundra for miles (no trees) and miles. That is also where most of the oil is and is connected to Valdez by the Trans-Alaska Pipeline. Much of the western coastline is like that although maybe :) a little more temperate. The wildlife in Alaska varies with the bigger animals being moose, caribou, bear (black, brown, polar), with most of the lakes having rainbow trout and the rivers being salmon spawning grounds. Commercial fishing is a mainstay of the Alaskan economy along with oil and government work. Tourism is huge and includes the sport fishing industry although sport fishing is also an entity unto its own along with hunting. Subsistence lifestyles are not uncommon and homesteading is part of Alaska history as well (at least from a western world perspective!).

Carci, I've never been to Alaska but after seeing the beautiful pictures of Apposite's property on his profile it's now how I picture it.
So happy you enjoyed the book!
RE - "The Great Alone" You all have me curious now, a must read! :)
rapa, I read TGA in 3 days... had a hard time putting it down. Having been in Alaska I loved the description and I was rooting for Leni through the whole book.
Yes, Carci, read The Woman in the Window. Reminded me of Hitchcock.
How did you like THE GREAT ALONE? I found it exceptional!
I have 2 books waiting at the library for me: The Color of Our Sky and The Woman in the Window. Has anyone read either of these?
Thanks, Rapa, I will check it out.
Countryphyl, Steven Berry's latest novel talks about what might have happened regarding MLK's assassination. The title is:
THE BISHOP'S PAWN. You might find it interesting. I've not yet read it.
Going to the library tomorrow to see what they have. Thanks.
