Looking for best sellers at bargain prices is one of the reasons E-books are an attractive alternative to library borrowing or used book purchasing. When Kindle started one of the goals was to price the top of the line at no higher than $9.99, but publishers forced Amazon to sell at higher prices through contract requirements. I have gotten some monetary credits when courts have found such contracts in restraint of trade.  This explanation of the market place and three questions is from Book Gorilla, an Amazon publication.  http://blog.bookgorilla.com/kindle-store-ebook-prices-are-rising-or... I find it interesting to see the E-book business, which has overtaken most of the rest of the trade, as it faces issues in the future. And of course, I'm always interested in what books are going to cost me.

I have a Nook Color and a Nook HD+. Love them both. Barnes and Noble have so many pages of free books, I really like that to check out a new author. My neighbor also has both Nooks, so we traded the color, She buys for one book club we are in and I buy for the other, this way we can read each others books. I have a small condo and there is no way I would have room for all the books I have on my Nook. Also so get daily from Bookbub and Early Bird Specials, many free or cheap books. Last year when w made our book selections for the coming year, I bought them all right away- but then later int he year some of them came on the free or low cos, so this year I will only buying a month ahead, unless its on sale.

I understand that the ability to trade books with other readers is a feature of Nook that Kindle doesn't offer.  It wouldn't help me out much as my spouse is not a big reader nor do I belong to a local book club. I do get to borrow one free book a month that I have to return. Kindle runs a bunch of specials between Thanksgiving and New Year each year that I always take advantage of.  As described in the article, some of the publishers make them charge more for their books than they would like, which gets them out of the best seller list. I think Kindle is trying to conduct a survey that will show publishers that prices above $9.99 are not attractive to buyers.
