Usually I don't intentionally read Oprah's picks but I had seen this on the library shelf prior to her announcement for her book club. This is a debut novel by Ayana Mathis.  It's nothing like I suspected and is an exceptional read.  Beware,  it's very earthy!!!  Am about 2/3 finished the book .  Will add more when I've finished it.  Have any of you read this book?

This was an exceptional read and beautifully written.  Was so much better than THE HELP, another of Oprah's selections.  You'll remember Hattie!

Can highly recommend this book.  Gave it a 90 on The Slopok Scale. Would love to discuss the ending with any of you who have read the book.

BTW, hope that Slopok is enjoying some fresh maple syrup!!!  Hoping he brings us some pictures from his trip. Looks like he may have run into some snow!

I was smote by the kidney stone god on the way to the airport and never made the trip. Had quite the adventure getting myself to the  emergency room....Maybe next year.
