retirement is great.........I read whenever I want, but I too steer to late night. So many books! My cloud will rain soon. My question is , does anyone else finish a book they are not entirely pleased with? I finished Clara's Heart by Joseph Olshan. I never did get the theme of the book. It left me feeling uneducated enough to understand it. But hey, there are a zillion more books out there

There are too many books waiting for me to read to waste time on a book that doesn’t give me something in return for my time. of course, since I belong to a book club, I do finish those books that I don't like for the pleasure of participating in the discussions.
Rarely do I read in the daytime or early evening. The only exception is a book that would keep me awake. I no longer finish books that I don't like. The last example of that was The Concrete Blonde by Michael Connelly. Usually like his books but it was just too blecchh for me.
I like to read in the afternoon
If the book is interesting enough it may keep me up. I do hate to leave a book unfinished.
Last time I slugged through "The Rook" by Daniel O'Malley because it received a good review from someone I trusted. But it ended up being an awful book
I read mostly at night. If a book is really good and I have not read it before I will sometimes read at lunch time but find it hard to put it down to get back to work. Oh well I am retired and don't punch the clock so I guess as long as management (ME!) is okay with it so am I. Ha!
I used to finish all books, no matter if I liked them or not. But these days if a book is not interesting or has subject matter I just don't want in my head I will take it back to the library or put it in the recycle bin and never look back.
