PBS List of The 200 Best American Novels

I always wonder what criteria people use to develop these lists as I have not even heard of many of these authors and/or books.  For the record, I've only read 24 of the 200.

Wow, what a list. I was an English major in college and there are many that I never heard of. Lots of the authors I recognized but not that particular book.
