Do most of you remember the smell of burning leaves, the taste of hot cider, chocolate covered donuts and the thrill of a Homecoming game?

Welcome to October. As J. Scott Fitzgerald said "Life starts all over again when it gets crisp in the fall.". I agree!

Recently read two books that disappointed me. I thought that Louise Penny's
new GLASS HOUSES was too long and I had it figured out early. Also thought that Sandra Brown's "SEEING RED" was also too long. The story line was OK but, as usual , she inserted too much irrelevant you know what.

Did enjoy Sue Grafton's "Y" is for Yesterday. Will be sorry to see her finish the alphabet.

Am currently reading William Kent Krueger's "SULFUR SPRINGS>". Lorouch, you're going to enjoy this one!!!!!

Hello to RAPA, CALIF NOW, GRAMMY K, LORUACH, URSULA, GRAMMY SUE, LYN, LIP SERVICE and anyone I miss. MANDY...sorry to learn of your loss.

I am currently watching the Astros/Yankees game and switching back/forth to Cavs/Orlando Magic.

I have popped in from time to time but slammed with Sports!!! Go figure that at my age would become a YOUUUUGE Cleveland Indians baseball fan! Encouraged by my Brother who counseled me last winter before he passed away in Feb to REALLY follow the sport. Get to know the styles, athletic and drama of the game.

SULFER SPRINGS...have it on order thanks to you all who posted since did not know Author had a new book out.

Column of Fire...okay so maybe I was pre-disposed to dislike the book after reading a negative review in the Plain Dealer. I absolutely adored Pillars of the Earth and World Without End. I gave up after 4 discs since I had the Audiobook.

Currently listening to TESTIMONY by Scott Turow...listening at night and it puts me to sleep with no problem. BOO HISS!

Wish I had something great to recommend...maybe next time?

Life seems so hectic these days and I don't get to read as often as I'd like.  Find myself falling asleep with a book in hand almost every night.  That said I did manage to finish 2 books this month: my Novella Group read Jane Austen's Persuasion, which definitely makes you look at how your own life is affected by what other people say and do; and for my own pleasure, I read Yann Martel's latest, The High Mountains of Portugal, which I highly recommend.  In case you don't recognize the author's name, he also wrote The Life of Pi.  The new book has 3 stories: one set in 1904, one in 1939 and the last in current times.  Amazingly the 3 stories all come together in the end; it was delightful!  I'm also taking a class on pre-WWI history and we are reading Barbara Tuchman's, The Proud Tower.  The parallels between now and then are scary!  Sigh!!

Under the heading, I Am Such A Glutton For Punishment, I am attending the inaugural meeting of a new F2F book club om Wednesday.  Still haven't figured out when I'm going to find time, but nothing ventured, nothing gained.

Finished Gwendy's Button Box by Stephen King and Richard Chizmar; it was a short, easy read - not really scary just interestingly weird.  Letterman - The Last Giant of Late Night is good so far.  I'm only up to his move to California before he even had a show of any kind.  Just got Y is for Yesterday out of Reserve, so plenty to read.

Wow! October is quickly coming to an end and only three posts so far. Well, I guess I'm to blame here, too, since it is my first one. I just picked up Camino Island by John Grisham. Has anyone here read it? I have been on a John Grisham kick for a while now, just finishing A Painted House. It is about poor cotton farmers in Arkansas during the early 1950s, their lives and challenges. Very enjoyable.
