Carolyn Good luck at the dentist - terrible ordeal for you. Any wonder that dentists have a high rate of suicides? Hope you like Koryta. For such a young guy he got me. Will check on Chad Harbach - add him to my long, long list. I think the therapy dog is a great idea - especially the pound rescue - that Lip Service's dentist uses. I only owned one dog who was not a rescue - dumbest dog in USA at the time.LOL
Just finished John Grisham's GRAY MOUNTAIN - very disappointed. AUDIBLE allows you to return books and this is probably heading that way.
WOW... Just went back and discovered I haven't posted any of my October reads... YET! Jerry is recouping in the hospital from a 6 hour back surgery yesterday... he was up and walking 3x today and I am home alone tonight so lots of free time.
Started October with The Storied Life of A.J. Fikry which for some reason I did not expect to like... but I loved it. Then read a paperback from a friend: You Don't Want To Know by Lisa Jackson... You don't want to bother with this one.
Next was The Sentry by Robert Crais, a Joe Pike/Elvis Cole thriller... reminiscent of Reacher's books and an enjoyable escape. While picking it up at the library I saw an author right next to Crais... Cramer... with 3 interesting sounding novels. So I decided to try a shelf-pick and took all 3. I read the first, Sutter's Cross, and despite it getting a little Gospel preachy (I like a good moral but not preachy) I still enjoyed the story and will probably try the next one before they are due back.
Yesterday I finished Becoming Chloe by Catherine Ryan Hyde (it was small and fit nicely in my big purse) and even tho I love her adult books, this YA was a bit simplistic for me. I have several more of her YA novels on the shelf and haven't decided if I want to try another.
Today I went back to All The Light You Cannot See ...despite having to drag this really big, fat large print book to the hospital along with my Ipad. Things were so busy in DH's room I really couldn't concentrate on reading but I am enjoying the beginning of the book.
Want to thank you all for your posts... I was running low on ideas and have found several in perusing your suggestions.
Thanx rapa... I'll put that one on my library list... we usually like the same books. :)
Have been homebound with broken r arm, foot and hurt back. Ran out of things to read and remembered you dear people. Thanks for continuing to post your suggestions--will give the Joe Pike series a try. Thanks!
I am finishing up the month with "Yellow Crocus" by Liala Ibrahim, a pre-Civil War story of slavery in the South and escape via the Underground RR. It is told from a woman's perspective, as young Virginia plantation owner's daughter becomes close to her black nurse-maid. With rave reviews, the story will go along with the classics in this genre, the last winning the Academy Award last year, "12 Years a Slave." You can save it until Feb for National Black History Month. I have a lot of interest in the story as I have had friends who owned one of the houses on the Underground RR, were there are still tunnels to the river and hiding places in the basement. Also, the Freedom Museum is in nearby Cincinnati.
With the election happening next week (I voted absentee 3 week ago), I will next read, "The Frankenstein Candidate" by Vinay Kolhatker. This political novel looks interesting. http://www.amazon.com/The-Frankenstein-Candidate-awakens-deceit-ebo...
