RABBIT RABBIT RABBIT and “Hello November!”

This is a time we give thanks for our joys and memories. Let’s also remember our veterans who have served to preserve our liberties and those who currently serve to maintain them.

Hope you’re finding some reading time. Recently I read two books, both on the best seller lists, and can’t decide which had the sicker story-line. The books are Lee Child’s MAKE ME and Karin Slaughter’s PRETTY GIRLS Both books were fairly mild until the final third and then “BAM!”. Anyone else read these?

Long before I ever heard of Louise Penny I spent a wonderful week in the Lac Brome region of southern Quebec, called the Eastern Townships.  I am originally a Francophone French Canadian with roots in the region.  I especially like her amalgam fictional town made up of the various parts of the area. I immerse myself in the culture when I get into one of her novels, recognizing the locations she describes.  (One novel had a group of players practicing a play to be put on by the local community.  I had attended a production of "The Importance of Being Ernest" in that very theater.)  Here she is at home in Lac Brome, working on her next story.

? STILL LIFE ?????

I have read all of Louise Penny's books beginning with the first one that we all read together. I think it was Still Life which was the first in her Inspector Gamache series.  I read 4 of them from March thru April, 2009, according to my book diary and, like rapa, I think the earlier ones were better than the last couple.  I loved the town Three Pines and some (but not all) of the characters.  Ruth with her pet duck and the 2 innkeepers were among my favorite characters. I was a bit disappointed in the last book, The Nature of the Beast.

I do really like her monthly newsletter in which she relates her struggles with her husband's increasing dementia and their latest move from their beautiful home to a condo facility which will make life easier for them with his declining health. I am adding a link to the most recent one:

It makes you realize that fame & fortune can't insulate you from life's problems.

EAGLEWOMAN...I finally got to see the movie "WILD" and thanks for the head's up on spotting the Author's cameo.

Penny....maybe I'll look back at some of her earlier stuff. To be honest I WANT to read or listen to books that can actually grasp my view of life from the "Top of the Hill." AKA...my age group. Lol

THE LIFE WE BURY was amazing in the integration of a character who was in the Viet Nam war and yet the actions of the hero were youthful and vibrant.

I am curious for a report on the book from my oldest daughter, my youngest daughter and my 25 year old Grand-daughter. More than that I think Action Man (DH) would love this book! Just have to get it on Audio as he not a fan of actual reading....but listens to 100+ books a year.
