Here is an author most of us take for granted and refer to often to stimulate and refresh our brain! Did you know that two days ago was Mr. Webster's 256th birthday! Here is an article reminding us how Webster gave us an essential tool for communicating our thoughts. Thank you, Noah Webster!!!!

Thanks Rapa -very interesting and so sad that he really did not gain monetarily but mortgaged his home so the 2nd edition could be printed.  He really believed in what he was doing.

Very interesting article.

Having spent a number of years in Connecticut, I can attest they still use some of those words there.  I met a few fopdoodles in the Hartford area.  They are basically yankeedoodles who have gone astray.  Seriously, it's amazing how some of the language of yesterday has not carried over well into the modern lexicon, while other words have.

Learned a new word today

abstemious

Webster tells me it means: marked by restraint especially in the consumption of food or alcohol

The word appeared in one of Doris Lessing's novels

Good one!!!!! :)

As in the National Spelling Bee, will you use it in a sentence, please?

Abstemious? Not a chance :))

RAPA...just read in the Plain Dealer this morning that the latest update of the Dictionary will be the last printed here in Cleveland, Oh. I didn't read the whole article but I figure future copies will be printed in other Cities?
