TBD

TBD on Ning

Spring in in the air, and what better way to brush off the cobwebs from winter than to check out a new season of books.

I'm starting the month with a new Tami Hoag titled THE BITTER SEASON.

Also picked up an intriguing little book, THE TRUTH ABOUT DEATH by Robert Hellanga. It's a collection of cleverly addressed stories touched with warmth, humor and deep feeling, accepting the fact that death and grief are part of the natural order of things.

What are you reading??

Earlier this week I finished The Highway by C.J. Box. I didn't think it was very good, but after checking the reviews in Goodreads, a lot of people obviously did. If nothing else, the ending certainly demanded a sequel.

Now I am reading All the Light We Cannot See (finally). I am enjoying it and certainly appreciate Anthony Doerr's beautiful writing.  It has been a long time since this book was discussed on Bookoholics and can't remember what was said about it. But at more than 500 pages, it is quite long, and I expect I will need to return it to the library before finishing it. The way the story unfolds, I could probably skip some parts and even entire chapters, but then I hate to do that. Yet, that may be what I will need to do, especially since I also have other things to do over the weekend as well.

And with that I will wish everyone on Bookoholics a happy Memorial Day weekend.

As I recall, I was one of the few who was disappointed with All THE LIGHT WE CANNOT SEE. Remember doing some skimming as book didn't develop as I anticipated nor did I care for the way it ended.

Am currently reading Baldacchi's THE LAST MILE. It's so far holding my interest.

I read "The Last Mile" earlier this month.  It held my interest to the end.

I'm tardy here, answering a May Reads post...I just finished "The Last Mile" and, as with you, it really held my interest.  Great book!

On this last day of the month I will mention 2 books that I have just read and enjoyed.  They are The Player and The Fraud, both by Brad Parks.  These are the last 2 (so far) of a 6 book series with investigative reporter Carter Ross as the protagonist and I've loved all 6 of them.

Parks has a witty dialogue going and mysteries that kept me guessing to the end.  They reminded me of the Myron Bolitor series by Harlan Coben.  Read them in order since there is a background romance running through them.

Almost forgot to post my last book for May.  John Hart released his latest novel, Redemption Road, in early May, but someone beat me to the library's copy and I had to wait 2 weeks.  After waiting 5 years since his last novel, well what can I say, except it was worth the wait.  Hart's usual cast of damaged characters, dealing with impossible odds, but finding a way to a better life.  I was so caught up with the story that I stayed up to 3:30 AM to get to the end, which explains why I forgot to post.  One of the underlying themes is the personal sacrifices we make for love.  In the end, the bad guys got what they deserved and the good guys rode off in the sunset.  Isn't that the way all stories should end?!!

Ursula, It is coming to me in transit to my library from one of the branches...  can hardly wait for a really good one!!!

Just looked this up in my library website and it sounds very good.  Is it part of a series or a stand-alone?

It's a stand-alone.  All of John Hart's are set in NC, but each one has had a new cast of characters.  Looking forward to reading both of your reviews.
