Lovely tribute to a great man!! He will be missed by many.
I have read her many monthly letters detailing his progress and now this tribute... WOW!
I am so sorry to hear of her husband. The account she wrote was so filled with love. She is in my prayers.
Dr. Whitehead's name was very familiar to me after my many years of work in association with the Pediatric Oncology Group. I knew him as the Principal Investigator of Montreal Children's Hospital and probably occupied the same room with him and many other pediatric oncologists at their semi-annual meetings although I don't believe I ever met him in person. I am grateful to know another side of him through the tributes to him here. My work was with data at the National Wilms Tumor Study, turning the stories of sick children into numbers for statistical analysis proving that our protocols were working to improve survival and quality of life for children with kidney cancer, i.e., Wilms Tumor. Knowing that the doctors who were treating these children are sensitive, caring human beings helped me do my job for 40 years.
