A couple of weeks ago, when I opened my Kindle for the first time in awhile, I was told it was being reformatted.  The archives were no longer present... now everything would be stored in the 'Cloud'.

I had no problem with that but somehow my home page, which used to be sorted by collections that I had created, now sorted all my 495 books alphabetically...  YIKES!  I can't tell a romance from a mystery from a western from a historical novel etc., unless I hold down each title until the name of the collections it is classified by come up...

I can sort by title or author or most recent but my collections seem to have disappeared off the home page.  The pull down has collections listed along with recent, title & author but it is in a faded grey that does not respond to any finger tapping.

I have tried everything I can think of to get my collections back on my home page. Has anyone else with a Kindle had this problem?

I had downloaded a few cookbooks, but found them very unsatisfactory, as I prefer to see pictures of the finished recipes, and also, so many of them would have as their basis a "red sauce" which I am so tired of.  I like spaghetti/meatballs/marinara, but everything with a marinara or red sauce is boring and you lose you taste for it quickly.  I mean, of course, stews, soups, casseroles.  Did you find that too?

to be perfectly honest, I haven't gone through them yet...  but yes, the ones I did check out I missed seeing pictures... also some of them you can't pull up individual recipes but have to go page by page... those books will be deleted quickly.

Something to do on a quiet day up north...

One recommendation for a great cookbook is Mark Bittman's "How To Cook Everything"

The book is usually $24 on Amazon, the kindle version is $19, it has 2000 recipes and 400 pictures (almost none have any red sauce). The advantage of the kindle edition is that the original book is over 1000 pages and weighs four and a half pounds.

If you have an iPad I recommend you get the  "How To Cook Everything" app instead, it looks much better on the bigger screen besides it is half the price at $10

I've found lots of terrific recipes on the free iPad app ALLRECIPES. They have pictures and can be printed!  :)

If you have a regular Kindle and are not into I-pad just yet, you can read the cook book on your PC which is much easier to use when going from one section to another and has a larger display.  With the Kindle you are stuck in just turning one page at a time (some books allow you to go from one chapter to another), while the computer based Kindle books has a slide bar along the  bottom to move from one section of the book to the other.  Some displays are in color.

There are many good recipe sites on the web...  and I have about 200 cookbooks on my kitchen shelf which I love to hold and browse through from time to time.  Sometimes you can almost taste the recipe...  lol
