TBD

TBD on Ning

A couple of weeks ago, when I opened my Kindle for the first time in awhile, I was told it was being reformatted.  The archives were no longer present... now everything would be stored in the 'Cloud'.

I had no problem with that but somehow my home page, which used to be sorted by collections that I had created, now sorted all my 495 books alphabetically...  YIKES!  I can't tell a romance from a mystery from a western from a historical novel etc., unless I hold down each title until the name of the collections it is classified by come up...

I can sort by title or author or most recent but my collections seem to have disappeared off the home page.  The pull down has collections listed along with recent, title & author but it is in a faded grey that does not respond to any finger tapping.

I have tried everything I can think of to get my collections back on my home page. Has anyone else with a Kindle had this problem?

Whew!  That boggles my mind!  Glad I use the library, one book at a time!!!!  Have some books on my iPad but haven't read them yet!  Mercy, Carci, 495 books!!!!  I wouldn't know where to start!!!! Lotsa luck!!!!!

They were all freebies, rapa... I just started ignoring the daily free book emails because I have so many already...

I did just read 2 Kindle freebies that were quite good... Don't Wait for Me by Dan Kolbet (a nice story but set in an Xmas theme so I read it at the wrong time of year) and Out of Time by Deborah Truscott (a time travel romance that was better than I expected it to be... loved the ending)

Carci, what I meant about having 495 books at my fingertips, is that I'd find it difficult to make a choice on what to read next.  I'm terrible with having choices, like in a candy store!  I will take my iPad traveling but at home I'm more comfortable with a stack of only two or three.

I didn't get this notice.   But I have 347 books on my Kindle, some archived. (Identical books are also on my two PCs). I have been able to do just about anything I want to with them by going to "Manage My Kindle Library" on my PC.  You can sort several ways and take all kind of actions on books there.  Maybe this is not what you are describing.  I do nothing on the Kindle screen itself as it is too confining and too slow.

Mandy, I haven't tried going on the PC...  thanks for the info...  maybe that will work... I'll let you know :)

Carci, just like you restored your books you need to restore your collections, those are in the cloud too.

From the Home screen, select Cloud.
Select Menu and then select Import Collections.
Select the device you want to import a collection from, and then select OK.

Mandy & Lip Service, Thanks for the advice...  I love my Bookoholic friends!

I went on my PC to Amazon... searched out troubleshooting my Kindle touch...  found someone had asked a similar question and I followed the advice they had given him...

It worked...  thanks for sending me to the right source.  Now I only have my 32 collections on my home page again.

Doing the happy dance...  :)

Glad you had this sorted out.

I understand Rapa's bewilderment with 495 books to choose from.  I only have about 300 on my kindle. I choose depending on the current mood. Classification is very important in order to find what you want.

Sometimes I read by type sometime by author.

Two that I recommend are Toby Neal (this book is free today so go grab it)

http://www.amazon.com/Black-Jasmine-Crime-Series-ebook/dp/B009LEFUKG/

And Gaincomo Giammatteo it is like the godfather but really well written

http://www.amazon.com/MURDER-TAKES-Friendship-Honor-ebook/dp/B007UN...

Carci, about the book "Out of Time" I started reading it but got turned off by the naive personality of the professor so I left it after reading a third of the book. I wonder if it is worth going back to.

Thanks, Lip Service.  Downloaded the Toby Neal book so now I have 13 books on my iPad for back-up reading.

Lip Service, It was a light romance which I don't usually go for but the time travel angle got me hooked.

I was in need of a change of pace after reading The Storyteller by Jodie Picoult and The Tinderbox by Jo Bannister.  Both of those books were downers.

I did get Black Jasmine... Thanks for the recommendation.

I have 596 books on my Kindle.  98% of them are free books mostly mysteries.  I kind of quit going into the "Free Kindle Books" site, as I am afraid I'll add one too many and it will crash it!  Is that a possibility?  I know it is rather slow, but something I can live with.

I was wondering:  Can you use Authors names as a Collection heading?

That's kinda why I stopped getting them Joanne...

As for the collections... you can name it anything you want... just give it the authors name and add all his books to that collection.

Actually 69 of my books are free cookbooks... don't know why I took them because whenever I want a new recipe or one I can't find I just go online and look it up... don't really need any cookbooks anymore.
