Does anyone use kindle book borrowing?
If you are an amazon prime member you can borrow thousands of books for free. Only one book can be borrowed at a time and be kept for as long as you want. When you return it you can borrow another.

I don't use that borrowing but I do use borrowing from a friend. As I understand it, you can borrow one book a month. Borrowing one book a month wouldn't work for me. I read a book a day some weeks.
Am I correct that one must own a Kindle device, not an iPad with Kindle app??? Doesn't Amazon Prime cost somewhere in the realm of $70/yr?

You're right on both scores. If you don't have a kindle or Amazon prime then this would not work.
Although Amazon prime costs $70, it allows you to ship free all items you buy from Amazon, it usually pays for itself pretty quickly if you shop regularly there. Amazon actually looses money on that feature but it gives them an advantage because they retain more of their customers because of it.
It is a side benefit that I was not aware of and was wondering if other members had been using it.
On the NOOK I have used the friend borrow, but not all books are lend able and they can only be lent once for 14 days. My neighbor and I both have the NOOK and now we just trade NOOKs when we want to read the others books.
On what do u read these books?
I have a Nook & have done Nook-to-Nook lending with no problems. As stated by Eaglewoman, there are restrictions on the lending policies. This weekend I tried to lend to my son who has the Nook app on his iphone. Didn't work. We tried again after he did some tweaking - still didn't work. So I've "loaned" 2 books that didn't go & I can't lend them again.
One of my friends is moving out of state at the end of the month, she also has a NOOK, so I am sure we will use the borrow thing more. I have the NOOk Color and just got the NOOK HD+ so I use the color to lend out. On the NOOK with he same account all the books can go go to 5 devices. Went to a NOOk class on fri, if you put in $0.00 in the search they have over 1 million free books.
