TBD

TBD on Ning

Thanks to Carolyn Tewell for reminding us it's time to share our reads for July.

Tonight, July 1, I'm finishing Lisa Genova's LOVE ANTHONY.  Tomorrow am picking up at library the book recently recommended by several of you, THE PROFESSIONALS by Owen Laukkanen.

What's on your plate for this month?

I am starting the month halfway through Looking For Me by Beth Hoffman.  The jury is still out on this one.  I find it partly charming & interesting and partly sappy & maudlin. It's one of those "talented little girl from the sticks fulfills her dream" books. What's holding my interest is wondering if her brother will show up.

The library has The Orphan Train waiting for me so I'd like to get this one over with soon as I expect to love that book.

Today is DH's birthday so while he'll be busy setting up tents for the 4th celebration with our local Lions Club, I'll be baking a chocolate cake and making a favorite dinner of his... he'll be too tired to go out once he gets home this afternoon. :)

I'm delving into my fourth Louise Penny, "The Cruelest Month."   It seems just yesterday that I spent two weeks at nearby Lac Broome (some of the action in "A Fatal Grace" take place on the frozen lake) and studying some of the history of the Eastern Townships, where my grandmother was raised. The imaginary Three Pines has it's mixture of Revolutionary War loyalist who came over the border from what is now the USA and native Quebecois, my ancestors.  I remember playing a lot golf while I was there and eating some excellent food, as our chef was a master who let me in his kitchen to discuss the natives foods. We even saw a local theater play ( in English) as "The Importance of Being Earnest" was done by local talent. It was nice to see the Anglicans and the Roman Catholics living side-by-side.

I'm half-way through the series and will try to read "A Rule Against Murder" this month.

Just finished A Rule Against Murder and loved it.  I have no connections to Canada or Quebec but I love this series.  Am so glad someone here suggested her books -will read them all.  Glad you had the experience of being there - sounds wonderful.

I decided to go all the way and enjoy the cool (often bitter cold) weather of Three Pines this hot July, so I picked up "Bury Your Dead," "The Brutal Telling," "A Rule Against Murder" and "A Trick of Light" at the local library.  I'm going to have a Penny read-in as I consume the rest of her published work on the Gamche series.  As Gamache would say, "merde!"

I am just starting "Please Look After MOM" by Kyung Sook Shin. sounds like a good book and is a best seller in Korea. Good reviews on B&N.. Wanting to read the Orphan train too.

Wouldn't you know......no sooner got home from picking up THE PROFESSIONALS when the library robot, Vince, called to say that THE SILVER STAR by Jeannette Walls is in for me.  Fortunately have six days to pick it up!

I've got Bad Monkey by Carl Hiaasen waiting for me at the libr., hope to go get it tomorrow, I love his stuff, so funny.

WHAT? Did someone say Carl Hiaasen? Love his stuff! Got the book notated and will place a hold before I hit the sack..(fireworks in process...so may be a long night!)

Airtight..Rosenfelt....loved his books with POOCH but tried another not part of his sequence with that formula and didn't like at all. I will definitely give this new Title a try!

I'm slogging through Jonathon King's mystery stuff...like the South Florida setting ...nod to Officerripley...but the writing is not stellar. Or the story or sumthin'! Like I don't care about the characters or why they in deep doo doo.

So still waiting for wmKent Kruggers "Ordinary Grace" book and Gone Girl....

Our Plain Dealer Book Critic said that "Found on the Bottom" by Leporte was even better...need to research that as well.

Also I have noted "Becoming a Supple Leopard" by Kelly Starrett a recommended read...need to research that, too.

Packing up Audiobooks, CDs, mp3s, plus my Closet which reminds me of a 16 year old is challenging! Waaaaah...maybe some wine will help?

Catch everyone over the weekend!~mlo

Carolyn... interesting that neither Found On The Bottom or the author are listed at the library or on fantastic fiction...  maybe a new author with a very new release?  Interesting title.

Carci - So weird?  I could find at Amazon but not Barnes and Noble nor my Library?  I'll see if a link can be found.

Something about those FL authors. I've just put a hold on this one - hopefully I'll have it in a couple of weeks!

I just finished Suspect, by Robert Crais.  The novel is not in his Elvis Cole or Joe Pike series; nevertheless I found it to be one of Crais' very best.  And I also put Bad Monkey on hold at my library.  Hope it is a short wait.
