I have been to many independent book store and re-sellers of books over my reading lifetime.  In fact, I went out of my way to visit Powell's Books in Portland when I was there a couple of years back.  But I'm afraid the trend toward E-books has put a crimp in their business.  Some will have to find a niche between the impersonal service of Amazon and the friendly neighborhood feel of the local book store. I'm not too sure what the niche is.

Pretty impressive! But, sadly, three of them in my area closed during the past year. Even Barnes and Noble closed one of theirs. So it's not limited to the independents.

It is sad because there is something wonderful about holding a book in your hand while you read.  I don't know what it is but there is just something cold about reading from an electronic form.  I have tried it on several books, I even use and electronic bible at church and have done so for the past two years, and I just can't get used to it.  Something is missing.  But kids today will probably not think it is strange at all.
