I track my reads on a service called Library Thing. Annually, I tally my reads, select my top ten and note the first book I read in the new year and the one I'm closing out the year with.
I began the year with "The Beautiful Mystery" by Louise Perry and end with "W is for Wasted" by Sue Grafton. I read 148 books this year.
Top 10:
"Sycamore Row" by Gresham -- the follow up to "A Time to Kill" is one of his best stories ever
"We Are Water" by Lamb -- I see myself inside Lamb's novels, as the Eastern Connecticut history and culture comes alive.
"Divergent" by Ross -- Every bit as good as "The Hunger Games," this dystopian adventure has three volumes.
"The Fault in our Stars" by Green -- Juvenile cancer is the topic of this touching story of love and understanding.
"Looking for Alaska" also by Green -- a close follow-up, with the topic of teen suicide gripping the reader.
"A Game of Thrones" by Martin -- the first of seven in the series. Every bit as good as "The Lord of the Rings" trilogy. There is an HBO series to accompany the reads.
"The Light Between Oceans" by Stedman places you in a remote lighthouse in Australia, with a dark secret.
"The Silver Linings Playbook" by Quick -- again, the story takes place in a familiar city, Philadelphia, with a love story between two people overcoming troubled pasts.
"Becoming Odessa" by Davis -- a coming of age story of a 22 year old woman who challenges the Appalachian Highway.
"The Pilgrimage," by Coelho -- a classic quest that takes place in Spain and Northern Africa.
