On that other website, we Kindle readers shared many sites where you can download low-cost or even free Kindlebooks.  One of those was Kindlenation; they have started a new service called Tracker, where you can list Kindle books & be notified when the price drops below whatever price you choose; it's kind of cool, so far they've notified me of 2 price-drops, which I've taken advantage of, gotta get some reading material built up for after that knee surgery next month, lol.

If anyone has a kindle Fire I strongly recommend that they download the app called "Free Kindle Books and Tips".

It lists a number of kindle books that are free or deeply discounted. Every once in a while an author decides to make some of his/her work available. The app does not just give you one book or two but at least a dozen every day. The books are not usually fluff but solid choices.

For example on special today only, Terry Pratchet is making available his book "The Color of Magic" for $1.99 if you like Pratchett this is a delight. Not sure why he would make this offer, he is very well known, he is the second most read British author after JK Rowling. The genre is fantasy/humor. Sadly his writing days are nearly over, he has been diagnosed with Alzheimer.

There are other authors who offer their work for very little not to make a name for themselves but so that people would be encouraged to read the book.  For example Lawrence Lessig is offering his book "One Way Forward: The Outsider's Guide To Fixing the Republic" for $1.99

This is a great tip, officerripley.  Thanks.  I have too many books on my Kindle right now & I'm trying to "read them down" so the device isn't so slow but I still pick up another when I see a particularly good buy.  Don't have a Fire, Lip Service, but my friend does so I'll pass along your tip.

I have hundreds of free Kindle books I have downloaded in the last year from E-reader News and Pixel of Ink... they send a daily email with the free books listed...  most are only free for that one day so you have to keep on top of these sites.

My favorite free Kindle book this year was Don't Let Me Go... a touching story about an agoraphobic man who befriends a neglected, precocious pre-teen from his apartment balcony & the way they improve each others lives... highly recommended. It has been free on more than one occassion so keep an eye out for it.

I agree: Don't Let Me Go was *wonderful*!  I've got another 1 of that author's books, When I Found You, on that Kindlenation Tracker list; good stuff.
