When you have more than a few books (be they hardcover, paperback, ebooks) to be read, how do you choose which one to read next? I go back & forth between: 1) read the ones I'm not sure if I'm going to like, get them out of the way first, saving the best for last so to speak; or 2) just grab one (or tap on for ebooks) willy-nilly.

I try to alternate between genres. Too many mystery/thrillers in a row start to feel the same after awhile, too much lite stuff (ie: Stephanie Plum) needs something with depth, maybe historical fiction afterward.
Just finished You're Next by Gregg Hurwitz and am now starting The Longest Ride by Nicholas Sparks... a definite change of pace.
I have over 500 books on my NOOK, have read all but about 80 (can't turn down a sale or a good free book)I belong to 2 book clubs so usually read those 2 first each month. then read the others by whim. Mystery and true crime are my favorites, but there are days where I just can't read another one and have to give it a rest for a while.
Even though I enjoy my Nook, I still prefer a real book and use the services of my local library. So often my decision is made by what's due back next. Sometimes it's reading for a class, or the monthly selection for my new book club (3 months and running), but hands down, my selection usually starts with the author, then genre, switching from heavy to light (not too much heavy though), and a little non-fiction, just to keep the brain cells active.
I like to switch back and forth too. I have books on the shelf, on the nook, computer and from the library. I like to pickup or order books ahead from the library and usually pick at least 3 different authors and can return them all read before they are due. Sometimes I have a book at bedside that a few pages is all I read and it can be there for months before I finish. I have a stack in my bedroom, garage and dining room to choose from. A friend and I are exchanging some too - only problem she has my taste and we both read some of the same books. LOL.
