I always feel a bit strange posting here.  You all talk about protagonists and plots, story lines and all that stuff.  I simply read to enjoy the book and would have a hard time taking it apart piece by piece.  I often wonder if others get startled like I do when I read.  Someone will knock, the phone will ring, someone will call my name or worse say mom!  Then I am literally pulled out of my book.  I was busy drawing pictures in their dust, seeing the sunrise or sunset from their windows.  I was admiring their trees, straightening a collar....watching cars....sitting in the barn........I was there and poof I am not!  It is very disconcerting.  I have read a few books lately that I really enjoyed.

Both are factual books, but probably dated.  I never know when I will stumble on to something.  I wanted the book....A Man Called Ove, but it was not available for me so I cheated and watched the movie..........and I loved it.......it was all in subtitles so maybe I could say I read it!

Anyway I enjoy getting the recommendations here.  I have so many books on my kindle that my cloud may rain any day now!

I often find a film version of a much loved book is not how I pictured it eg "Clan of the Cave Bear", "The Martian"

As for factual books I enjoyed the books by Thor Heyderhal (Sp?) The Kon Tiki story and his book about the Egyptian papyrus boat - both amazing reads.  I sometimes think of keeping a gun by my side to prevent interruptions LOL

Lyn, I just finished a Man Called Ove this morning and loved it everybit as well as I did the first time I read it, when it first came out.   Also saw the movie on Amazon Prime last month and was impressed with how well it followed the book.  I loved the movie which is not something I usually say after reading the book first.  Monday our f2f book club will be discussing the book.

If you decide to read the book also, you will be glad you did...

I've had the pleasure of meeting Jamie Ford, who is quite charming, a real down-to-earth, no pretenses kind of guy.  I am so pleased that he refused to sell the movie rights until finding a company that will respect the authenticity of having Japanese and Chinese actors.  How else does this story make sense?!!

In February I saw the film version of the play Allegiance, which starred George Takei aka Mr. Sulu.  The cast was Asian, which was fitting since it tells the story of the Japanese-Americans during WWII.  Hope one day to see the play in person.

Lyn I am right there with you.  I can see what I am reading and I do hate an interruption.  But I keep my bookmark stuck in the the back pages of the book so it is handy to put in the place where I am reading when I am interrupted.  I have always realized it isn't fair to my family to be in my books land and not in the real world when they need me.  Thankfully all my children have grown and I don't try to read when the grands are around.  It would never work.  They are too cute and I must hear and see everything they do.
