I just finished the best book I've read in a while. It's a mystery, private detective type and it was soooo good, I had to share. It's Here Be Monsters by Jamie Sheffield; here's the review I left for it on Amazon:
"Tyler Cunningham is not your typical, hard boiled private detective; he's mostly a loner all right, but (due perhaps to Asperger's?) relates to and interacts differently with the world than most of us. Even with his quirks he's still an immensely likable character; the author doesn't drown the reader in Tyler's quirks, just enough to explain the way he is. A great story full of interesting, believable characters, and the descriptions of the Adirondacks area where it takes place were beautiful. I can't wait for the next in the series; I hope there are a lot more to come!"
And here's a link to the Amazon page: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00AVECXBY/ref=kinw_myk_ro_title to read more about it. Now there is some vengeance-related violence in it but it's not too graphic and somehow the author managed to make this book appealing for both fans of cozy & hard-boiled, P.I. mysteries (which I am). Very, very good read; I highly recommend it! (Don't you love it when you've got a book that's so good you can't turn--or tap for Kindlers or Nooksters, haha--the pages fast enough, but when the book's done you're sorry it's over, you want more?)

Sounds great but not at my library either... bummer!
Our library doesn't have it either; their poor budget problems...Anyway I got it for Kindle back on Aug. 7 for 99 cents. (If you have a Kindle, don't forget about that site I posted about, tracker.kindlenationdaily.com, where you can list a book & they'll notify you if and when the price drops down to what you want.) The kindle price has gone up to $7.99 and the paperback price is $11.69 from Amazon, here's the link: http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias%3Dstripbook...
It's $12.47 right now at B&N for paperback, doesn't seem to be avail. for Nook. It's also for sale at half.com for $10.30 for pprbk; I've ordered from that site a lot and had good luck and I don't think you have to be registered with eBay either, I think eBay just bought 'em; here's the site if interested: http://product.half.ebay.com/Here-Be-Monsters-by-Jamie-Sheffield-20...
Happy reading!
I'm reading the book now and enjoying it very much. I read the review and it was a 5 star book, I borrowed it through "prime" on Amazon. I'm trying "prime" free for 30 days and I believe I'll keep it, already ordered things with free shipping and watched some free movies, seems like it'll work for me.
I'll watch for other books by this author.
I just got an enewsletter from the author today, saying he's getting close to finishing the 2nd book in the series, tentatively to be titled Caretakers.
So you think amazonprime is worth it, slopok? I've been thinking about it. You mentioned watching free movies; that's on your computer only, right, not your tv, is it?
Officeripley, we did watch on the laptop (ran the headphone output to an speaker/amp) and it turned out very watchable, but will get a cable that will connect video monitor output on the computer to the TV. Trish likes the laptop because we have to set together on the couch and share popcorn.
I have had prime for four years now and I love it.
I now buy all household items online such as toothpaste, dish detergent you name it.
In fact Amazon looses money on that service but it does bring them more loyal customers.
I don't even use the streaming service except a couple of times to watch some old TV episodes
One benefit of doing all your shoping in one place is that you get a much better idea of your spending habits and your purchasing dates of specific items. (didnt I just buy socks the other month?)
Another benefit of prime is that once a month you get to borrow a book from Amazon and read it for free
Interesting... I have heard of it but never realized you could do all that stuff... thought it was only for reading free books...
How much does it cost?
It now costs $79 per year.
Since one does far fewer trips to drugstore and grocery stores you recoup it fast.
For me the time saved far out weighs the money saved.
I have an electric car so there is no gas expense to the drugstore but each of these trips is fourty minutes at least
Amazon is quite versatile, I have ordered items like this
http://www.amazon.com/Palmolive-Classic-Extract-Shave-Cream/dp/B001...
If you look closely you see it ships from a pharmacy in Portugal (of course Amazon prime does not apply here)
I have a cord that hooks my NOOK to the TV and I watch free movies on Crackle. Most are older but good movies that I have missed in the past.Took my cable out about 6 months ago and don't miss it at all and especially the high cost its getting to be.
Well, I don't have amazon prime (yet! :D); but I do like the way when I have almost mistakenly started to buy a book (kindle or otherwise) from them that I've already bought, they warn me about it.
