TBD on Ning

Now that August is here, are you finding any cool spots to curl up with a good book?  Will be 103 here tomorrow!

I'm about 2/3 finished with THE NEVER LIST by Koethi Zan.  The story is very timely as it deals with some girls held captive for three years in a dungeon-like cellar by a connoisseur of sadism. Sound familiar?

Starting the month with a "what if" book that has a private organization that has accumulated $24 trillion in funds trying to take over the USA.  "America's Trust" by Murray McDonald has a lot of action and international intrigue.  Good read. http://www.amazon.com/Americas-Trust-Murray-McDonald/dp/0957487169

I must report that Kentucky has has one of the most pleasant summers in my memory.  Temperatures are moderate with daytime highs in the high 70s or low 80s.  Playing plenty of golf.

I started and finished a book on my Kindle yesterday.  Completely Restored was a freebie and well worth the money... lol

Joke aside, it was actually a very entertaining time travel and a complete change of pace. A young family spends 3 years and all of their savings restoring a Victorian mansion to its former splendor and the night after they finish the restoration with the original door, they wake up the next morning and it is 100 years earlier... 1909.  There are changes in their lifestyle and their family dynamics as they and the 3 kids (2 teenagers & a 5 yr. old) adapt to life a century ago. It is well written and he almost makes it believable.

If it is offered by Amazon again for free on your Kindle, grab it!

I just finished The Hit by David Baldacci. I enjoyed it.  A pretty typical Baldacci thriller.

One of our bookclubs is reading "The Great Gatsby " this month the other is reading "The last Thing On MY list" Have a bunch on my NOOK to read, so not sure what my next one will be.

Just finished  the Professionals and owe a thank you to all who recommended it.  Now reading Paul Doiron's  - Bad Little Falls and on the computer reading Michael Connelly's - The Overlook - the Harry Bosch series.

I just finished Gone Girl and  it kept me guessing. Ending was anticlimatic for me and confusing......but I finally got a chance to read the book.

Just started "The Ocean at the End of the Lane." http://www.amazon.com/The-Ocean-End-Lane-Novel/dp/0062255657  Rave reviews, I hope the actual reading is as good.

I wasn't disappointed in the fantasy world the author created for a young lad having troubles at home coping with a new housekeeper (of course, she was a witch.)  Or was it a fantasy world?  http://www.amazon.com/The-Ocean-End-Lane-Novel/dp/0062255657

Just starting Lisa Scottoline's "Think Twice."  It is about twins (female) with one good twin and one bad twin, who puts the good twin a in coffin, while she takes over her life.  I like Scottoline as she places all her books in Philadelphia, a place I called home many years ago.  I picked up this 2011 publication for $1 at the library sale of overstock books.  The list is $28, so I will get a 25% credit for the book, or $7, when I trade it at the used book store. What a deal!

Why doesn't the library just take them to the used book store and make $7 instead of $1 ?

Because the book is worth nothing in actual cash at the used book store.  It is only worth $7 towards the purchase of another used book.  The library doesn't want used books.  They only want new books.  They are truing to get rid of used books to make more room on the shelves.

OK...  Our half price book store does actually buy used books but at such a ridiculously low price you are better off to just donate them to the library.
