(With "while" I was going for "smile," but "dial" works perfectly. It brings to mind a horrid fact I heard once--that there was a rash of people getting leukemia and mouth, stomach, and throat cancer after working as dial painters when dials glowed because of radium in the paint. The painters would often twirl their brushes in their mouths to get a finer point.)
