TBD on Ning

I am starting a new thread here mainly for purposes of my own catharsis. It is my intention, at least at this point, to make regular contributions. Of course, if anyone else has anything to add, they are more than welcome. If you have any input, please contribute.

Over a year ago I decided to deal head-on with my self-diagnosed adult attention disorder, (ADD). The inability to stay focused was becoming too stressful. I found myself sitting around watching the clock tick, yet I couldn’t keep “on task” with any project I started. Nothing was getting done and just starting something was becoming depressing.

The smart thing to do was probably to get professional help, so instead I decided to try to heal myself, at least as a first try. Cognitive therapy and pharmaceuticals (UGH) might be the approved way to go but I decided to try meditation first.

18 months and countless self-help books later, I still can’t bring myself to a regular, formal meditation program. But, along the way, I discovered informal mindfulness. Yes, I know it is the “Fad” right now. It is hard to navigate modern social trends without “tripping over” somebody extolling the benefits of mindfulness.

Let me add my voice to the chorus.

Let's make America kind again.

"Healing doesn’t have to look magical or pretty. Real healing is hard, exhausting and draining. Let yourself go through it. Don’t try to paint it as anything other than what it is. Be there for yourself with no judgment." ~Audrey Kitching

That would be nice, wouldn't it?

Amazon, and others  has T-shirts with that saying printed on them. It would be nice if a movement got started.

"Our lives are made dull by our efforts to overcontrol things. The joy of creative expression arises out of surprise." ~ Mark Epstein M. D.

"Let out a little more string on your kite."  ~  Alan Cohen

Oh this one is good!

"Courage doesn't always roar. Sometimes courage is the quiet voice at the end of the day saying 'I will try again tomorrow." ~ Mary Anne Radmacher

Telling yourself: "it shouldn't be like this" is irresistible sometimes. Just understand that it is always utterly futile. It IS like this."  Everyday Mindfulness

OK, I posted this because I think it illuminates an important truth, namely one we have all already learned from "Don't cry over spilt milk." We tend to forget that. BUT, that isn't to say it always needs to stay like this, whatever this is. Clean up that spilt milk, if you can, and move on. Whatever it is, it is your starting point. Move on.

Well said.

“To practise mindfulness is to live in the moment, notice what is happening, and make choices about how you respond to your experience rather than being driven by habitual reactions.” ~  Vidyamala Burch
