I am starting a new thread here mainly for purposes of my own catharsis. It is my intention, at least at this point, to make regular contributions. Of course, if anyone else has anything to add, they are more than welcome. If you have any input, please contribute.

Over a year ago I decided to deal head-on with my self-diagnosed adult attention disorder, (ADD). The inability to stay focused was becoming too stressful. I found myself sitting around watching the clock tick, yet I couldn’t keep “on task” with any project I started. Nothing was getting done and just starting something was becoming depressing.

The smart thing to do was probably to get professional help, so instead I decided to try to heal myself, at least as a first try. Cognitive therapy and pharmaceuticals (UGH) might be the approved way to go but I decided to try meditation first.

18 months and countless self-help books later, I still can’t bring myself to a regular, formal meditation program. But, along the way, I discovered informal mindfulness. Yes, I know it is the “Fad” right now. It is hard to navigate modern social trends without “tripping over” somebody extolling the benefits of mindfulness.

Let me add my voice to the chorus.

"Today is priceless. No amount of money will ever bring it back. Savour the final moments of today by noticing something you’d otherwise miss while caught up in the busyness of your day." ~ @MindfulAcademix

"When thought is in bondage the truth is hidden, for everything is murky and unclear, and the burdensome practice of judging brings annoyance and weariness. What benefit can be derived from distinctions and separation?" — Sengcan ゚

"All delusions are based on the various ways we're talking to ourselves and then believing what we're saying."  ~  Adyashanti

"When you observe your delusions you will know that they are baseless and not dependable. "  ~  Bodhidharma

Imagine the brain to be like an orchestra with all of its myriad components as instruments working together to create the symphony we call the mind. But where is the conductor? It turns out, there isn't any. Buddhists and neuroscientists agree. The idea of a personal self leading the performance is an illusion. It's all  improvisation.

"We’re all a little raw and messy. No one has it all together all the time, and no one’s perfect. Vulnerability isn’t weakness. It’s honesty. And that’s what connects us." ~ @tinybuddha

Be like the sky. Spacious, expansive, allowing.

Thoughts are like birds, flying across the sky.

They quickly come and go. The sky lets them be.

Feelings and moods are like the weather - slower to change and move through.

But the sky lets the clouds and rain be too...

One way to happiness is to cease worrying about what is beyond the power of your will.  - Epictetus

Worry gives small things a big shadow.

"One forgets the self by becoming one with the task at hand. Zazen, or seated meditation, is the quintessential form for this focused awareness, but it can be practiced anywhere and anytime."
— Andrew Cooper

Best operational definition of Mindfulness I've  seen  yet.

You are a function of what the whole universe is doing in the same way that a wave is a function of what the whole ocean is doing.
