G - George Gershwin for all the music - my favorite, Rhapsody in Blue
H - Hemingway for his spare narration, showing ne the way out of purple prose. Best: The Old Man and the Sea
I - Indiana Jones Just a great character all round. A professor with a whip and a gun? His dispatching of the fancy swordwork guy. Classic.
J- Jack Paar, cool for having an early talk show of the old school, when the invited guests usually stayed for the whole show and really talked to each other about improv stuff, and didn't just do a cameo to flash their new book or movie. Jack dragged in personal family stuff, and showed his real feelings, just like being in your friend's living room.
K - I can't think of a K, so how about: King David - even though he messed up a lot, he was sincerely penitent and always willing to keep trying. He wrote most of the psalms we fall back on. He was a good dancer. And he slung a mean sling shot.
L - Little Lulu: she ate beebleberries and palled around with a witch. Also, there was some boy pal (I forget his name) she was always beating at something or other.
M - Mel Brooks Actor, producer, director, comedian, screenwriter aaand married to "Mrs. Robinson." How cool must he be?
N - Nancy Drew, empowered girl detective of my childhood, snooping unafraid into haunted spaces.
O - Oscar Hammerstein because of all the music. Can't think of anyone else.
P- Popeye the sailor man, because he eats healthy and has friendly-sounding chuckle. Oh, and did I mention he beats up bullies?
Q - Quentin Tarantino because he LOVES movies and owns a theatre where he shows old movies for weeks at a time and because he knows so much about their history.
R - (Ginger) Rogers, a great dancer who did everything Fred Astaire did backwards and in high heels
