Let the fun begin

Once a year Hannah, her sister and I go to one of our favorite spots. We spend the entire day riding the rides, walking the grounds and just enjoying the laughter. Last year we had friends visit back home from Washington D.C. and South Korea (that's when I got that flowerpot hat.) Well, today is Lagoon Day!! Do you have an local amusement park that you like to go to? Do you have a favorite ride?

No amusement parks nearby, but when I go down to Nantes I love to visit the former warehouse quarter on the Ile de Nantes. Part of it, the old banana warehouse, been converted to workshops where they create wonderful animals for carrousels and you can ride or watch the giant elephant.



Now they've built a giant spider, which has gone to live in Liverpool.


Many of the nearby warehouses have been converted into a complex of galleries, restaurants and bars with a wonderful view over the river. From there you can see the house where Jules Verne lived, which is now a great little museum.

How cool was that!! I would totally go for a ride on any of those. That one fish was kind of ugly though. I love seeing your part of the world through your eyes Chez, you have a wonderful sense of adventure.

It's a terrible feeling, isn't it? I still remember Playland, North of Seattle. In the recesses of my head I believe they ripped it down to build Northgate shopping center, but I know that is not really true.

Ah yes-s-s-s-s, Freddie "Boom Boom" Cannon, one of my all time favorite artists....it takes me back to junior hah!

o, Chez...my friends thought I was crazy when I insisted on visting here, but 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea was/is one of my favorite books.

I can't get enough of Rollcoasters! The rest of the rides...pffttt.
There's a small park about an hour or so from here with a wooden roller coaster that looks and sounds like it's going to collapse at any minute. I love it!

There is one of those at the park we go to Quinn. It makes this loud "klackety,klack" sound as it gets started and then for the rest of the ride it sounds like the wooden boards are going to snap like twigs. It looks a lot like that on in the picture up there @ Palisades.

I don't care to visit an amusement park nowdays...they seem too slick. When I was a kid we had the Lake Lansing Amusement Park near my home. It was on a tiny lake, and was old and kinda rundown and all wooden and everything, but it was a cool place to visit. Every year they had a free day there for all the safety patrol kids (usually sixth graders). It was pandemonium...hundreds of sweaty 11 year olds runnning to and fro, long lines at every ride except the "baby" ones. I think they gave us a hot dog and small bag of patato chips too. Great memories, but now I'd prefer to hike over to Lake Michigan and enjoy the solitude.
