I wouldn't even know where to begin! As an infant I was the center of my family. I was the first grandchild in my mother's family and after I became two years old, the siblings and cousins started coming and I was on my own, so to speak. It might have been my temperament because my next younger sister was always clingy and the next one was rebellious. I was just independent and preferred to please, but didn't need constant approval. I think it started there.

Same here Baia

Though for me, my hearing impairment has made me a stronger person because I had to work 2x as hard as most not to be left behind in a social or emotional sense. I spent most of my youth trying to hide it, but you'll be surprised how different people treat you if your handicap is apparent.

It has also made me thankful for what I do have.

I also had the advantage of being a latchkey kid, no helicopter parents to put a leash on me so I had more opportunities to explore my world. Ok, maybe there were some hairy incidents, but generally speaking, I was safe in my explorations.
The past couple of months was a crucible of hard knocks for me...house got egged, my car gets broken into at work, and a accident (car collision)...helping my daughter get ready for the prom--paying for initial college expenses, poor health,...etc.

One thing I learned is "take it one day at a time..." maxim really works.
It's not the load that breaks you down, it's the way you carry it. ~Lena Horne
