(ChattahBox)—Hal Turner, a long-time purveyor of racist hate, neo-Nazi blogger and Internet radio host, is about to go on trial for threatening to murder three Chicago area federal appeals judges. And Turner’s defense strategy is taking an interesting turn. The vile white supremacist is claiming that he was paid and encouraged by the FBI to engage in over-the-top hate speech. And that he was unfairly arrested for going too far.

To date, FBI documents have shown that Turner acted as a low-level informant off and on from 2003 to 2008, when his undercover role was uncovered by hackers. But an investigative piece published in NorthJersey.com on Sunday, shows that the FBI at times, considered Turner an “irreplaceable,” if not an erratic and hard to control source. Turner claims that he began acting as a FBI informant, as early as 2002. Regardless, that doesn’t explain Turner’s activities as a racist hate-monger in the 1990s. Turner’s defense of “the FBI made me do it” doesn’t hold water.

The piece posted on NorthJersey.com is “based on government documents, e-mails, court records and almost 20 hours of jailhouse interviews with Turner, which shows that federal authorities made frequent use of Turner in its battle against domestic terrorism.”

According to the piece:

“Turner received thousands of dollars from the FBI to report on such groups as the Aryan Nations and the white supremacist National Alliance, and even a member of the Blue Eyed Devils skinhead punk band. Later, he was sent undercover to Brazil where he reported a plot to send non-military supplies to anti-American Iraqi resistance fighters.”

Turner was given the FBI code name, “Valhalla.” And FBI emails from the Newark-based Joint Terrorism Task Force, show that the agency valued Turner’s intelligence, while at the same time showed increasing concern over his use of violent rhetoric.

Special Agent Stephen Haug wrote in an email: “[Turner's] value outweighs the discomfort associated with source’s rhetoric. Source’s unique access provides important intelligence which, if lost, would be irreplaceable.”

A FBI memo notes the success of Turner’s undercover activity: “[Turner] has proven highly reliable and is in a unique position to provide vital information on multiple subversive domestic organizations,” elaborating that he identified over 100 possible extremists and prevented “over 10 acts of violence.”

Turner and his lawyer Michael Orozco, plan to demand that the case against Turner be thrown out, because the government engaged in “outrageous conduct” by encouraging Turner’s racist rhetoric, then arresting him for going too far. “I was not some street snitch,” Turner whined to NorthJersey reporters during a jail house interview. “I was a deep undercover intelligence operative.”

But how does Turner explain his racist activities in the 1990s, when he worked as the Northern New Jersey coordinator for Pat Buchanan’s 1992 presidential campaign. Buchanan, with his “anti-immigrant ideologies, anti-Semitic views and frequent racist statements, found the perfect campaign coordinator in Turner.” And let’s not forget Turner’s past association with the race-baiting Sean Hannity, when he hosted a right-wing talk radio show with New York City’s WABC.

Turner’s racism and neo-Nazi philosophies began long before his role, as an informant for the FBI.

Turner’s trial for making threats against three judges begins this week. Orozco plans to subpoena New Jersey Governor-elect Chris Christie. He will question Christie to determine if Christie advised the FBI about Turner while he worked, as an U.S. Attorney in Newark.

Turner also faces earlier charges for threats made against two Hartford CT officials.

How do you find this stuff? I never heard of it,man my head must have been in the sand. Who exactly did he threaten to harm?
I saw a report on the Rachel Maddow Show. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/26315908/ The story is not up yet so look for it soon as it changes daily.
Bless your heart, you trust your government.
So, you think he was undercover agent?
I had a silly argument with guy, who think, the government framed Eric Robert Rudolph (Religious fanatic, and bigot) and Timothy McVeigh (the worst mass murder prior to 9/11). He said the same thing, "You are a fool" for trusting the government.
Except for one tiny difference, this time it is apparently true.
