I'm just getting over a cold/sinus thing that makes me choke from post nasal drip every night. I am also currently looking for crispy sheets--I don't like brushed or sateen or microfiber or jersey sheets. Then I thought about why I am manic for the sheets right now.
When I had a cough/cold as a child in my bed with the clean crispy sheets that were hung out on the line, my mother would come in in the middle of the night to help stop the cough. She would put a flannel rag on the radiator, one of those old metal radiators that clanged as the heat came up, to warm it , put Vick's on my chest and under my nose, then put that wonderful hot cloth on my chest and all was right with the world. Sigh.... So being sick is one of my favorite memories.

Probably linen or cotton sheets crest, they make everything with blends now or bamboo or Egyptian cotton. You can probably find what you need online. I still like my bedding hung outside for that great outdoors smell.
My most favorite memory from childhood is floating in a Big Truck Tire Innertube on Lake Huron with my cousins and the friend from the cottage next door. Even when I was by myself that was so much fun out on that big old lake going as far as I could and still see shore.
i used to go tubing down the Delaware River, there's parts of the river with some tasty rapids.
I shot the rapids on the Delaware with my ex-husband and a bunch of friends in a rain storm. It was exhillarating and scary. I felt nauseated with fear everytime the water got rough. Then it would be calm and beautiful, and then, in the distance, I could hear the water churning up again, and back came the nausea. I loved it!
no word of a lie, my favorite childhood memory is seeing the tooth fairy. i can still picture it clear as day, a little green 'tinkerbelle' type thing floating around my room...
wow,do you still take that medication?
lol... must have been the paregoric....
musta been
When we lived in Duluth, MN, we used to pack a picnic lunch, bathing suits and towels, and hop on a bus that took us to the end of Park Point, a long, skinny island just off shore. At the very end is a beautiful public beach, and they used to have a small amusement park, as well. We'd swim and picnic all day and then we'd walk the entire length of the island , back home to my grandmother's. To make the walk easier, we would sing songs. My sweet little Norweigian grandmother would sing "By the Light of the Silvery Moon" with me. I would give anything to hear her sing it now.
I guess I DO prefer "regular sheets" too although out of all the new kind, I DO like the Egyptian cotton but do NOT like the sateen, flannelette, and definitely HATE satin. The last 3 snag my always dry feet.
Being sick had some good memories for me too! My mom did the Vicks thing too though as an adult it doesn't do a THING for me (but YES, I have a jar in my nightstand and use it ANYWAY!!) I used to get oatmeal or Cream of Wheat in bed, tea and toast. or Giggle Noodle Soup. If I was Home from school I was strictly NOT allowed to watch TV but my mom would bring all the books I wanted. I also liked Word Searches. When My dad got home, he would fluff my pillow, read one of the stories and bring me Giggles Noodle Soup and maybe a popsicle after dinner. My grandma offered Halls Cough Drops every time I saw her which was at least once a week in church. She ate them like candy or instead of.
My whole childhood was a good memory but Christmas was special. I had a hard time accepting Santa wasn't real for a LONG time because the facts that he WAS were so darn convincing thanks to my Dad. I could've SWORN I saw Santa and the reindeer flying through the air when my dad asked if we heard the sleigh bells.....YES I HEARD THEM AND YES I SAW THE SLEIGH....And FLIPPER.....we were all HIGH on VICKS in those days.....LMAO!!
EVERY Saturday on his ONLY day to sleep in late, my Dad got up early to watch cartoons with us from 8-noon. Almost Every day of the week, my parents, my brother and I had our favorite TV shows we watched together...Happy Days, Little House on the Prairie, The Waltons, WOnderful World of Disney, Eight is Enough, etc. On the NON TV days, we would play Sorry, Husker Do, or Racko. On Fridays, my dad would whip out the old records and play the chorus for me and if I liked it, he played the whole thing. He always seem to have a bit of trivia about each song he played. ON Saturday nights, we went visiting or we had "company". My parents had about 4 couples they were close to. ONE couple had no kids, were atheists and were ODD but I LOVED THEM. They had NO TV, their house was stark WHITE everywhere. ONE painting in the whole place. NO TV, no radio but a STATE of the ART stereo system where they played their Mozart and Chopin on. Between them, the played the LUTE, a Mandolin. a flute and a Violin. MY parents usually stayed til 3 or 4 in the morning so they would put me to bed around midnight in the spare room and I would fall asleep to the Classical music.
Well, I could go on and on but these were some of the few good times!!
