Food and Drink
The bronze teen in the yellow bikini
is oiled on the blanket under the rays.
You know she’ll be thirsty
though she doesn’t know it
Until she rolls to her feet and asks
“Do we have water?”
She had carried no water
or even put it on her list.
Her skin broils slowly – the front and the back
until the crust is golden brown
and a timer goes off
and the thought occurs.
She ambles once more toward the family elders
and wonders:
“Is there food?”
Endings
I know they call it commencement,
but it still feels like an ending.
An ending of friendships and camaraderie;
An ending of purpose;
An ending of possibilities;
An ending of hope.
At the Park, Away From Them
Bullet cars
zinging in a line,
gray ones, white ones,
Walmart red with yellow smile
backfiring bike
cabs and trailers
goingsomewherefast,
rumbling in the ear
vibrating the earth
whizzing on,
gravel from a slingshot
The humming soothes me
like a cradle being rocked,
cushions me
from the clatter
of their discord
Some of these things – I don’t know where they came from
They’re supposed to be someone’s secret, I’m sure
But not mine
I wonder how they got here
I have no secrets worth keeping
Except for maybe that time…
Just wondering…If you’re in the space station, circling the earth, looking down (through the photoshopped debris)
Do you still have a mortgage?
Are twenty children still dead?
Is David Letterman still funny?
Was he ever?
(“Well, I’ll be darned…Dave had sex…”)
The tumor still grows, though…
Even way up here.
Thank you Westerly and Bmichael for these gems!
Oh! How my heart doth soar
Like a red balloon you can buy in a store
Or a big rubber ball
You can bounce down the hall
Or a big, stupid Fred
You can smack in the head
Oh! How my heart doth soar
Oh! How my heart doth spit
Like a big little pig
In a barbecue pit
That turns and burns
And soon puckers up
And so would you
With a stick up your…
Oh! How my heart doth soar!
Your Pal,
Bmichael
Oh, how my heart doth laugh! Yep, I'm still here, lurking. The ad world has sucked any creativity out of my soul, but not really complaining. They re-upped my contract and I'm there 'til March ... 2014. Yike$$$$$$$$$$$$$$.
Many thanks ... I probably should have posted on Twitbook, but ...
