Well, I thougt I had posted a message introducing myself but obviously I did something wrong and it didn't show up. I won't go into any details on this one, other than to say hi and this place looks like it's populated with some nice people. I hope you don't mind me joining you. I'm not a big poster but I will when I can.

I'm a retired office worker/activity director/hair stylist, that of course being "beautician" back in the day, lol. Anyway. I'm in southeast Michigan, maybe 25 miles or so from the city of Detroit. I'm married, although we were divorced once then remarried a couple years later. That was back in the day too, Ha! I have 2 grown kids, daughter is the oldest who will be 45 this month, my son is 37. He was born "the second time around". My girl and her family live around the block from us (I can see her driveway from my front door) and my son & his family are in St. Augustine, Florida. 

As for being retired, that was as activity director in a senior housing complex and I enjoyed it immensely. The board of directors for the building decided that their payroll was too high (and there was a lot of politics involved too) so they "laid off" 5 of us permanently. Then 4 or 5 months later, they hired family members to take our place. Legally there was nothing we could do about it, even though they had promised us if they ever were going to hire they'd call us. Oh well. In all honesty, after I got over the bruised ego etc I rather enjoy being retired.

We have a small place (I'll explain what I mean in another post sometime) at a lake about 45 minutes west of us and since I no longer have to work, I spend most of my summer there. I usually come home 1 or 2 days a week to do laundry and pay bills; my husband shows up for the weekends. We have a great time out there. 

Well, I didn't mean to write a book so I'll leave it at that for now. Thanks again for the welcome!

seems like you been busy americanwoman .. you should relax and put your feet up .. after all that .. .. let somebody do your hair and direct your activities for a change .. you earned it ..
