Deep Pitching Makes Red Sox the Team to Beat

OK, sports fans -- It's a Red Sox Nation! I realize we're only half through the season -- and as (an almost) lifelong Red Sox fan, I've seen our Sawx get close and then.....well, we've all heard the stories. I've learned not to count chickens (ever) and I wait til I see my fellow loyal fans genuflecting and crying in the rain in the stands at Fenway.

BUT
what the heck? Here's an uplifting news story (unless you're a Wankees fan) -

DeMarco: Expect a Dodgers-Red Sox World Series, complete with the Mannywood sideshow. But on the field, the AL still clearly is the better league, with the better overall competition. That and another round of home-field advantage will help the Red Sox take another title.

God willing, I'll make the pilgrimage back to Fenway this year for the win :-)

Agreed, life is grand. It is what you make of it. You only go around once so live it with plenty of "Gusto". Take care, thanks for the info and I shall chat with you again soon. Good luck to your Sawx and remember, Go Cubs!!!!!

i don't know about the other stuff. the accuracy and timing would seem to be fine coordination elements. if you have the mass, endurance and speed from the steroids, then get the brain to coordinate finer elements. the eyesight thing.....i dunno. i have heard bodybuilders seem to think that steroids impaired their vision.

in this case, i say FARMS, not PHARMS. it's just not worth the short-term endorsements for a lifetime of problems. i knew a guy who used to play for one of the local MLB teams....he's in his late 50's now...too young to live so long in this state....big time mood swings, little muscle mass. skinny arms and legs with very little tone. not fat, but has a belly on him and his arms have 'bat-wings' that women complain about having. i've never seen batwings on a man this young --- 80's or 90's, yes...but not 50's! he realizes he's not capable of having a long term romantic relationship -- and he yearns for companionship. it's too hard on others.... he goes from big time joy to total in the pits depression in the wink of an eye --- and looks 20 years different between those moods. it just makes me sad.

we know these guys work hard and are committed to their sport and we realize that they are under tremendous pressure to maintain their a-list status once they get there. but no matter what you do or who you are, there's always someone coming up behind you that will try to take your place/beat your record/nab your deal -- whatever the scenario --- and will, one day. it's the cycle of life. so work hard and enjoy/appreciate the journey....it could be a bumpy ride. :-)

No, I can do without the chemicals, I've done very well on my own for fifty eight years. Thanks for your explanation, it gives me a little more clarification. Strength, speed and endurance I can see (physical attributes)). My question is (and I know it kinda dumb), Does it enhance talent (accuracy, timing, eyesight, etc.)? Thanks for your time and correspondence. I really appreciate it. Go Cubs!!!!!

i'm not a medical doctor, i'm a naturopath (ergo 'natural doc'), and don't write rx's -- but i'll share what i know.

anabolic steroids are synthetic versions of testosterone, a hormone the body naturally produces. testosterone builds muscle, so by replicating, the body becomes bigger, stronger and faster than it would otherwise.

here's the breakdown: the body is made up of cells. cells absorb everything that comes into the body through receptors, which sends signals to tell the body what to do....so when steroids are introduced, the process goes off the chain and more proteins are created to make bigger muscles with more endurance, speed and strength.

here's what you don't hear about: testicular shrinkage. let me explain....testosterone is manufactured in the testicles. but the body stops producing natural testosterone when steroids are introduced, so testicular shrinkage is a side effect. they should go back to normal size when the user stops taking steroids and the body starts to manufacture it's own testosterone.

another side effect are 'man boobs', due to the fact that the body produces extra estrogen. so the user will end up taking rounds of anti-estrogen pharms to rebalance.

better living through chemistry? you be the judge.

Well Doc, The Southside Chicago Team (White Sox) are going to help you with the Wankees this weekend. They won last night and are waiting for them again tonight (in fact all weekend). Now you just gotta get your team (BRS) to win. On the serious side, I have a question, being a high school and freshman college athlete (football), for us to get better, we did a lot of weight lifting, exercise, running and practice. That was forty years ago. We didn't have HGH or steroids. How does that make a baseball player better? I can see it making him stronger (good for football or able to run up the court faster and longer in basketball or good for hitting home runs in baseball), but does it help in in his timing for swinging a bat? Does it improve his eyesight (to see the ball better)? Explain how this actually works. I hope you can give me a good medical explanation. I know the chemicals are not good for the body in the long run but I would just like to know how they really enhance an athlete's performance. Again, I understand more strength, but how does it improve a pitcher's accuracy, a basketball player's shooting accuracy, a quarterback's passing accuracy? I'm not naive but the player still has to have some degree of talent. In other words, what do the drugs enhance besides strength? I'm very interested in your answer. PS The Cubs are still in first place thanks to the Dodgers beating the Cardinals last night. Go Cubs!!!!!

I'm sure Boston will be fine. They just have to keep their stranglehold on the Wankees. If they get Halladay the pitcher, they'll be in tremendous shape. Here's wishing you good luck. Go Cubs.

The Cubs are in 1st place today (07-26-07). I really hope they can maintain that position. It's still early yet but I have faith and I believe. This is the Cubs year. Go Cubs. The Cardinals are pulling out all of the stops and really positioning themselves very well. Trades for former Cub and Indian's player, Derosa and now former Oakland star, Halladay (a good hitter), wow!!!! They already have the best player in the Major Leagues, Mr. Pujols but the question is, will the pitching hold up and has the team chemistry been neutralized? Again, it remains to be seen and October is a little ways away. Go Cubs!!!!!
