Senate Health Care Bill

Has there ever been a better example of the complete breakdown of our national government and the legislative process than the Senate health care bill that squeaked by last week? What a fiasco. Think about all of the months of committee meetings, town hall meetings turning violent and verbally abusive, spoken about ad nauseam in the 2008 Presidential campaign and this is the best we could do? It's bad enough that Senators take money from so many private interests that wind up influencing their… Continue

Uh-oh, Gifts

I see this site has added a gift feature similar to what is done on Facebook. That's how I knew the beginning of end had arrived on the old TBD site. Is there no money in running a site without virtual gift-giving? If anyone wants to send me a real gift I could get behind that.

Balloon Boy

I'm going to keep this brief.

It was so much fun watching the amped up television media make fools of themselves over the Balloon Boy hoax. Any thinking person will understand that our political news is handled the same way.

Now that the entire episode was determined to be a hoax perpetrated by a Colorado family hoping to create interest in a reality TV show about themselves the authorities are trying to determine the appropriate punishment. Let's pile the entire family… Continue

Death of Will Rogers Anniversary

Saturday, August 15th, was the anniversary of the death of America's most beloved political satirist, Will Rogers. Rogers, who's most famous quote, "I never met a man I didn't like," perished in a plane crash with his aviator, Wiley Post. How much do you want to bet Rogers was choking Post on the way down saying, "You son of a bitch, I’m gonna die because you were too cheap to fill it up?"

I never bought that famous sentiment of his. How could you go your whole life without disliking… Continue

Healthcare by Mob Rule?

Private industry has sunk to a new low in trying to get their way. Documents recovered and shown in the mainstream media television outlets show a public relations firm hired by the insurance industry has been organizing an "astroturf" rebellion (a phony grassroots organizing effort) to disrupt town meetings during the month of August while Congress is in recess and discussing proposed changes to the health care delivery and insurance system.

Whatever the public decides it wants to… Continue

Touring Tom Jones Still a Draw

Singer and 1970's, bulging crotched, heartthrob, Tom Jones recently appeared near my home at an outdoor theater. When I first saw the signs posted promoting the event about one month earlier I did a double take. Tom Jones? He's still out there? I hope he isn't thrusting his pelvis in and out like he used to or he'll get hip dysplasia.

I know you are waiting for me to say I attended the concert but I didn't and I'm sorry to disappoint you. Not having first-hand knowledge no longer… Continue

Up on the Roof

I gave the chimney on my house a haircut today. It had become overrun with thick, ivy vines, that stuck up in the air about two feet, spreading out in different directions. Reminded me of Don King's hair. I'd been ignoring it because I feel Don King is wealthy enough to get his own haircuts. Vines are stubborn too. They sprout hundreds of tentacles that embed themselves in the concrete in between the bricks and hold on for dear life. After two and one-half hours of hacking, chopping, and… Continue

Enough with the history reenactments

Here's the headline in my local newspaper:

Reenactors Set to recreate the burning of Norwalk.

Here we go again. My city was apparently the site of a minor battle during the Revolutionary War where British soldiers burnt a bunch of buildings. This weekend a group of history reenactors will recreate the battle.

I've had enough of these people. What's the matter the paint ball facility all booked up this weekend? Is the Patriot all sold out at Blockbuster?… Continue
